Bangladesh inflicted a second straight Test whitewash on Pakistan, wrapping up a 2-0 series win on the last morning to complete the job in the second match. Having already swept Pakistan in the away series, Bangladesh produced another landmark result on Wednesday, May 20, triumphing by 78 runs.
Pakistan faced a tough task when they returned to the crease on the final day of the second Test. Although Mohammad Rizwan was well set, the visitors had already lost seven wickets and still required 121 runs to overhaul the target and draw level in the series.
Rizwan received a timely reprieve right at the start of play and then began to pick up momentum. He struck boundaries off back-to-back deliveries against Nahid Rana, helping Pakistan gain some traction. Sajid Khan then joined in, finding runs in a similar fashion by cracking boundaries off consecutive balls, this time against Taskin Ahmed.
The partnership held firm and kept Bangladesh under pressure as Pakistan’s chase gathered belief. A crucial half-century stand lifted the outlook for the visitors, but Bangladesh were aware that once the duo was separated, their advantage would likely swing back decisively. With just three wickets needed, the home side sensed the end was close.
Taijul Islam provided the breakthrough at the moment Bangladesh wanted it most. He floated one up to coax Sajid into playing at an outside edge, which was taken cleanly at first slip for Sajid’s fifth wicket. The decisive finishing touch arrived immediately in the next over when Rizwan edged a ball to gully, falling just six runs shy of reaching a century.
From there, Bangladesh moved to seal the match with minimal fuss. In the very next over, Taijul completed a six-wicket haul by removing the final wicket, ensuring Pakistan suffered yet another defeat. It was Bangladesh’s fourth consecutive win over Pakistan in the format.
Litton Das was named player of the match for his influential century in the first innings, which ultimately proved to be the difference. Mushfiqur Rahim received player of the series honours for his overall impact across the contest.
Brief scores: Bangladesh 278 (Litton Das 126; Khurram Shahzad 4-81) and 390 (Mushfiqur Rahim 137; Khurram Shahzad 4-86) beat Pakistan 232 (Babar Azam 68; Nahid Rana 3-60) and 358 (Mohammad Rizwan 94; Taijul Islam 6-120) by 78 runs.
