The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has asked member associations, clubs, and other affiliated organisations to submit the names of their councillors by May 16. Tamim Iqbal, a former Bangladesh captain, is currently acting as interim chief of the board after the National Sports Council removed the Aminul Islam-led administration, citing allegations of misuse of power. The interim setup has been tasked with conducting the next BCB election within a 30-day window.
Earlier, on April 4, the BCB said it had kicked off the election process by approving a three-person Election Commission to oversee the upcoming election. On Wednesday, after the fourth meeting of the BCB ad-hoc committee, the board confirmed it has completed the list of associations, clubs, and organisations that will be invited to nominate councillors.
In a statement issued after the meeting at BCB headquarters, the board said, “The Board finalized the list of Associations, Clubs, and Organizations from which the names of 192 Councillors will be invited under three categories, pursuant to Article 12.7 of the BCB Constitution.” It added that the BCB will write to the relevant associations, clubs, and organisations requesting their nominations, with submissions due by 16 May 2026.
These 192 councillors will then be responsible for choosing 25 directors for the BCB. The board’s 25-member structure has been outlined as follows: 12 directors will be selected by councillors from Dhaka clubs (Category 2), 10 directors will be elected by councillors representing regional and district bodies (Category 1), one director will be chosen to represent other organisations such as public universities and former cricketers (Category 3), and two directors will be nominated by the National Sports Council.
The BCB president will be determined by the 25 directors who are ultimately picked by the 191 councillors across the relevant categories.
District coach evaluation planned
The BCB also announced that it will establish a committee to evaluate candidates for the 64 district coach roles once the current coaches’ contracts come to an end. The board said the evaluation will include both theoretical and practical components.
Additionally, the BCB confirmed that contracts for umpires and match referees have been extended by three months after expiring on April 30.
