The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made a late change to India’s upcoming international schedule on Tuesday, moving the opening one-day international against Afghanistan just hours after it unveiled the squads for the forthcoming Test and ODI assignments. The first ODI, originally slated for June 14, has been shifted back by a day and will now be played on June 13 in Dharamshala. After that, India will head into a three-match ODI series, which follows a one-off Test set to begin on June 6 in India.
Alongside the fixture update, the BCCI confirmed the playing groups for both competitions. Shubman Gill has been named captain for India across both formats. In the Test squad, KL Rahul takes over as vice-captain, stepping in for Rishabh Pant. For the ODI set-up, Shreyas Iyer has been appointed vice-captain, keeping the leadership structure consistent for the limited-overs campaign.
Several senior players have been given rest for the one-off Test as well as the ODI series versus Afghanistan. Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah are among those unavailable. The Test squad also features fresh inclusions, with Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey earning call-ups as new faces.
The squads were chosen by the Men’s Selection Committee led by Ajit Agarkar, with Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra, RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha involved in the process. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia was present during the selection.
In the ODI squad, India have brought Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back into the top order. Ishan Kishan has also been included as an additional wicketkeeping option alongside KL Rahul, giving the team flexibility in team composition and batting depth.
India’s ODI balance includes three all-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar. The spin unit is expected to be anchored by Kuldeep Yadav, while the pace group comprises Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav and Gurnoor Brar.
