CSK Hit by Fresh Injury Blow as All-Rounder Ghosh Ruled Out for IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings have confirmed another major injury blow in IPL 2026, with all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh ruled out for the remainder of the season after sustaining a fracture in his right foot. The setback came during CSK’s home game against Mumbai Indians at Chepauk on May 2—an outing that also marked Ghosh’s IPL debut.

Injury confirmed after Chepauk debut

  1. Ramakrishna Ghosh suffered a fracture in his right foot during the CSK versus MI match at Chepauk on May 2.
  2. While the precise moment of the injury was not clearly identified, the impact was evident after an earlier standout moment in the field.
  3. Before the injury, Ghosh impressed with a sharp diving catch that contributed to the dismissal of Will Jacks.
  4. After that, he appeared to be struggling physically following a tumble in his follow-through while bowling to Naman Dhir, which could have contributed to the problem.
  5. CSK later issued a statement confirming that Ghosh will not take further part in IPL 2026 and wished him a speedy recovery.

At the post-match press conference, head coach Stephen Fleming also addressed the incident. He said it was disappointing that the young player’s progress was interrupted late in the contest, while also praising how quickly Ghosh has adapted and improved.

Fleming reflects on Ghosh’s progress and role

Fleming highlighted that Ghosh’s improvement in recent weeks had been evident, pointing to strong training performances at the team’s academy sessions. He noted that the franchise uses two grounds and that Ghosh had looked particularly impressive there. The coach added that the injury was especially frustrating because it happened toward the end of the match. Fleming also underlined the player’s development as a batter, saying it has been a major area of improvement—allowing him to be genuinely viewed as an all-rounder.

Ghosh’s sidelining compounds an already disrupted season for the five-time champions. CSK have dealt with multiple injuries in recent weeks, including the loss of Indian pace bowler Khaleel Ahmed and batter Ayush Mhatre. The team’s bowling resources were already stretched at the start of the campaign, with Nathan Ellis sidelined and Spencer Johnson only becoming available later due to injury.

On top of that, CSK have also been without MS Dhoni, who has been managing a calf strain since the beginning of the season. With yet another key contributor ruled out, CSK’s squad depth will face another stern test as they attempt to steer through a challenging IPL 2026 without another player in their core plans.
