CSK’s win reshuffles IPL 2026 Orange Cap: Samson climbs to No. 3

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured a stunning 103-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in an IPL 2026 game on Thursday night, a result that not only rewrote the margin in the record books but also reshuffled the standings for both the Orange and Purple Caps.

Orange Cap leaderboard

Welcome to the top three, Sanju Samson!

Samson has already produced two of the four centuries registered in the tournament so far, and those innings have lifted his run total to 293. However, beyond those two big scores—and a 48 in between—his other contributions have mostly come in single digits, which is why the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pair of Abhishek Sharma (323 runs) and Heinrich Klaasen (320) still occupy the first two positions on the chart.

Further movements are possible on Friday night when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) take on Gujarat Titans (GT). Shubman Gill sits in fourth place with 265 runs, Virat Kohli is sixth with 247, and Rajat Patidar is ninth on 230. With that trio in the mix, one or more of them could climb higher before the leaderboard settles again.

Purple Cap leaderboard

Samson’s CSK colleague, Anshul Kamboj, is back in the Purple Cap conversation as well. Prince Yadav of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had previously shared the summit with 13 wickets, but Kamboj’s figures of 1 for 10 from three overs against MI—along with taking Shardul Thakur’s wicket—have propelled him to 14 wickets and the top spot.

Prince is currently second, with SRH’s Eshan Malinga and GT’s Prasidh Krishna sitting joint third on 12 wickets apiece. Krishna is due to play against RCB next, so the expectation is that he could make an impact and alter the list again.
