Fontenla’s spell and Bryce’s early strikes power Scotland over Bangladesh

Seventeen-year-old Scotland right-arm quick Gabriella Fontenla delivered a standout spell, taking a maiden and allowing only 11 runs in her remaining three overs as Scotland’s bowlers set up a dominant win over Bangladesh. Kirstie Gordon was equally economical, giving away just 21 runs in her full quota, while captain Kathryn Bryce struck early with figures of 1-24 from three overs before turning the contest with the bat. In the chase, Bryce remained unbeaten on 54 off 32 balls to help her side reach the target in style.

Bangladesh’s top order struggled at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh after Nigar Sultana elected to bat. The visitors saw openers Juairiya Ferdous and Dilara Akter depart during the Powerplay, and No.3 batter Sharmin Akhter was dismissed in the ninth over. Sultana tried to stem the collapse, compiling a gritty 46 from 39 balls, featuring five boundaries and a six. She also built momentum through two important partnerships—first with Sobhana Mostary and then with Shorna Akter—pushing Bangladesh to a total beyond 120.

Even so, that effort wasn’t enough. Scotland chased it down comfortably, winning by eight wickets with 26 balls still remaining. After Scotland lost opener Darcey Carter in the fifth over, Bryce stepped in to steer the innings by forming two decisive batting combinations. She struck 47 runs off 39 balls with Katherine Fraser, and then wrapped up the chase with a rapid, match-winning stand of 54 off just 28 deliveries alongside Sarah Bryce, who finished the job by hitting the winning four.
