Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill produced a highlight-reel piece of fielding during GT’s pressure-packed IPL 2026 meeting with Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With the match swinging hard in Gujarat’s favour, Gill pulled off a full-length diving catch to remove Shivam Dube, effectively extinguishing CSK’s playoff hopes.
The contest was one-sided from the start, with Gujarat not only eliminating Chennai from the playoff race but also locking in a top-two finish. In the league stage, GT finished with nine wins and five losses from 14 matches, wrapping up the campaign with a complete season double over the Super Kings.

Chasing a daunting 230, CSK’s innings broke down early as Gujarat’s pace attack applied relentless pressure. Chennai slid to 29/3, leaving them scrambling for a foothold. Even so, Dube struck back with real violence at the crease, briefly reigniting the contest with a fearless counter.
The left-hander struck 47 runs off only 17 balls, smashing four sixes and adding four boundaries along the way. His surge threatened to swing momentum back towards CSK, but the drama lasted only until Gill delivered the decisive intervention in the field.
Dube attempted another big hit off a length delivery from Rashid Khan’s over. He mistimed the shot, sending the ball high over the infield. Gill reacted instantly—sprinting back from cover, tracking the ball as it curled through the air, and then completing a superb diving catch inches above the turf to send Dube back to the pavilion.
Gill didn’t stop at the catch. After claiming the wicket, he turned towards the crowd and gestured for CSK supporters to stay quiet, a visible signal that Chennai’s last realistic chance in the match had gone.
Gujarat set the tone with the bat
Earlier, Gujarat’s top order had taken complete control after being put in to bat first. Shubman Gill led from the front with a knock of 64 off 37 deliveries, giving the innings a strong base. Sai Sudharsan then continued the dominance, producing a smooth 84 off 53 balls that kept the run-rate moving steadily.
With CSK’s bowlers under pressure late in the innings, Jos Buttler finished things off in style. He struck unbeaten 57 off just 23 balls, helping Gujarat reach 229/4 and set a total that proved too high to chase.
CSK’s collapse after early strikes
Chennai never managed to recover from the early damage caused by Mohammed Siraj. Siraj struck twice in quick succession, removing Sanju Samson for a duck and dismissing captain Ruturaj Gaikwad cheaply, leaving the chase in tatters at the outset.
Even though Dube provided a brief burst of momentum, the tail couldn’t hold. Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada cleaned up the lower order, and CSK were bowled out for 140 in 13.4 overs, bringing an abrupt end to their challenge.
