GT Bus Short Circuit Sends Players Evacuated After Roadside Scare

What started as a difficult evening for the Gujarat Titans almost spiralled into something even more serious after their team bus developed an electrical short circuit while they were travelling back from the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday night. The incident left Shubman Gill’s squad stranded on the road for close to an hour, before the players and support staff were evacuated immediately. Thankfully, everyone is reported safe.

From a tough match to an unexpected roadside delay

The Titans had already been on the wrong side of results earlier in the day, suffering a five-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. But the night’s troubles did not end with the loss.

As the bus was making its way back from the venue, it experienced a short circuit. Players and members of the support staff were kept waiting on the road for nearly an hour. Evacuation procedures were carried out promptly, with all personnel reported safe after being moved out of the vehicle.

Five days of disruption before the final

For Gujarat, the electrical scare came after a run of logistical setbacks leading into the title match. Their move to Ahmedabad was not smooth, with poor weather across north-western India affecting travel timelines.

  • The Titans’ arrival in Ahmedabad ahead of the final was delayed due to adverse weather conditions over north-western India.
  • Heavy rain pushed back their chartered flight by almost three hours, and the team finally reached Ahmedabad late on Saturday.
  • Because of the late arrival, the planned captains’ photo session featuring Shubman Gill and Rajat Patidar was postponed.

Road to the final and Gill’s post-match message

Over the previous five days, Gujarat had little time to recover between games, moving from one high-stakes match to another. Their campaign in the latter stages included back-to-back knockout encounters before reaching the summit clash.

  • On May 26, Gujarat lost Qualifier 1 to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
  • The next day, the Titans travelled to Chandigarh.
  • On May 29, they faced Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 at the New PCA International Stadium in Mullanpur.

Even after falling short at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gill made it clear the group would take positives and lessons from the run. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said, “We couldn’t get over the line, but there are always things that you could improve on. And even if we had won the trophy, there were still things that we felt as a group that we needed to work on.”
