NEW DELHI: The Indian men’s cricket team is expected to head to Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series in the latter part of August, aligning with the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) schedule, a report said on Monday. While the final dates are yet to be confirmed, the report indicated that the fixtures are likely to be staged between August 15 and August 27, based on information drawn from Sri Lanka Cricket sources.
At the moment, there has been no official confirmation about the three T20 Internationals that were previously thought to be part of the same tour package. The two Tests are set to come after the Lanka Premier League, which is due to conclude on August 9. The broad timeframe for the series has already been shared with the relevant stakeholders, including the Indian team management.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has also travelled to Sri Lanka as part of an ICC delegation to assess the circumstances around Sri Lanka Cricket. The board was recently dissolved by the government led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and an interim setup—known as the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee—has since been put in place.
India’s next international assignment is scheduled to begin on June 6, when they play a Test against Afghanistan in Mullanpur. That will be followed by a three-match ODI series. After completing the ODI commitments, India are expected to tour Ireland, England, and Zimbabwe before finally travelling to Sri Lanka for the Tests.
In the WTC standings, India currently sit in fifth place, having won four matches and lost four of their nine played so far. They have accumulated 52 points, with a points percentage of 48.15. Sri Lanka are placed fourth, though they have played only two matches in the current 2025–2027 WTC cycle.
