India’s Record Tour Awaits New Zealand: 5 T20s, 5 ODIs and 2 Tests in 2026/27

India are set to tour New Zealand for a packed multi-format assignment running from October through December, fitting into a notably busy Kiwi home summer in 2026/27. The itinerary includes five T20 matches, five one-day internationals, and a two-Test series, with all of it staged across New Zealand’s five major centres. New Zealand Cricket has described the trip as the biggest incoming tour in terms of sheer volume of games, with 12 matches scheduled in total for the men’s side.

The two Tests are planned for the Cello Basin Reserve in Wellington and Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Importantly, the longer format is scheduled to follow the conclusion of the white-ball block, which begins on October 22. India’s last visit for Tests dates back to the 2019/20 tour, when they played the two-match Test series in New Zealand. Since then, New Zealand have toured India twice, including in 2024/25, a campaign that ended with a landmark 3-0 Test whitewash.

For New Zealand supporters, the five-match ODI series adds an extra layer of intrigue, with the prospect of seeing Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in ODI cricket again. The two big-name white-ball stars have not stepped away from international one-day action, and the ODI leg is expected to offer a high-profile platform for their involvement. With the ODI World Cup taking place next year, those five one-dayers are also likely to be viewed as valuable preparation in the run-up to the tournament.

In the shortest format, the most recent meeting between the teams came in this year’s T20 World Cup final. Before that, New Zealand had toured India earlier in the year for eight white-ball matches. While New Zealand managed to win the ODI series 2-1, the T20I part of that contest went heavily against them, with India finishing 4-1 in the shorter format.

New Zealand’s hosting responsibilities do not pause after the India men’s tour. The women’s team is next scheduled to play three T20Is and an equal number of ODIs against Bangladesh. This reshuffling comes after the inaugural ICC Women’s T20I Champions Trophy was pushed to February, which in turn has moved the New Zealand Women’s tour of Australia from February–March to a different window.
