Josh Inglis Added to LSG Squad, Breetzke Exits Tournament for Personal Reasons

Josh Inglis has been added to the Lucknow Super Giants setup ahead of their next match on May 4, and he is immediately available for selection. At the same time, Matthew Breetzke has departed the tournament for personal reasons, leaving LSG to reassess their overseas options.

Quick facts

  • Josh Inglis joins LSG ahead of the next game on May 4 and is available for selection immediately.
  • Matthew Breetzke has left the tournament for personal reasons and has returned to South Africa.
  • LSG play Mumbai Indians on Monday at the Wankhede Stadium, in their ninth league match of the season.
  • LSG’s next cluster includes matches on Monday (vs MI), Thursday (vs RCB), and Sunday (vs CSK).

Inglis had already let franchises know he would have limited availability for IPL 2026 due to his own wedding ahead of the auction. Punjab Kings released him and Lucknow snapped him up for INR 8.60 crore between seasons, adding wicketkeeper-batter depth to their squad.

His wedding was held on April 18 in Margaret River, Western Australia. For Punjab Kings, Inglis contributed 278 runs across 11 innings, finishing with an average of 30.88 and a strike rate of 162.57.

Inglis has started training with the Lucknow group. Monday’s contest against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium will be the ninth match for both teams this season, setting up a bottom-of-the-table showdown, with each side having recorded only two wins so far.

Breetzke, meanwhile, has returned to South Africa. He had stepped away from the LSG squad before the April 26 home match against Kolkata Knight Riders, a game that eventually swung to a super over.

It is understood that the main reason for Breetzke’s departure was the recent death of a close family member on his wife’s side. As of now, there is no confirmation on whether he will come back into the tournament.

Where Inglis fits

Inglis may be able to slot into the LSG playing XI, particularly with the franchise’s overseas batting returns proving inconsistent this season. Nicholas Pooran is averaging 10.25, while openers Aiden Markram (24.12) and Mitchell Marsh (26.50) have struggled to match the impact they produced last year.

Looking ahead, LSG have three matches in the coming week—Monday against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai, Thursday against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Lucknow, and Sunday against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai—as they aim to steady their campaign and move back up the table.
