KKR vs PBKS: Harshit Rana set to attend IPL 2026 despite knee surgery

Kolkata Knight Riders’ fast bowler Harshit Rana is in contention to miss IPL 2026 because he is still working his way back from knee surgery, but he has nonetheless made the trip to show support for his franchise. The 24-year-old is expected to be present at the KKR vs Punjab Kings game on Monday, cheering from the stands.

KKR shared a post on its social media channels to confirm that Rana is currently in Kolkata. The message made it clear he is in the city specifically to spend time with his “KKR family” and to back the team during the match.

Quick facts

  • Harshit Rana may miss IPL 2026 due to recovery from knee surgery.
  • He is in Kolkata and will be at the KKR vs Punjab Kings match on Monday.
  • Rana was ruled out of IPL 2026 after surgery following a knee injury.
  • KKR replaced him in the squad with Navdeep Saini.
  • The knee injury also ruled him out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
  • Rana injured his knee during a warm-up match vs South Africa on February 4, 2026, in Navi Mumbai.
  • After surgery, he was replaced in India’s World Cup squad by Mohammed Siraj.
  • Rana received the Best Men’s International Debutant award at the BCCI Awards in New Delhi last month.
  • KKR have lost their first two IPL 2026 matches to Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
  • Rain risk is high for the Monday clash, with weather impacts possibly shortening the match.

Rana’s absence from IPL 2026 had already been confirmed as his rehabilitation continued after the knee procedure. KKR subsequently moved to fill the void in their squad by bringing in India pacer Navdeep Saini as his replacement.

The same injury kept Rana out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 as well. He picked up the problem during a warm-up fixture against South Africa’s national team in Navi Mumbai on February 4, 2026, and withdrew after delivering just a single over.

Following that setback, Rana underwent surgery and was later replaced by Mohammed Siraj as India went on to claim the 2026 T20 World Cup at home.

Even with the disruption to his season, Rana’s efforts were recognised at the BCCI Awards last month in New Delhi. He received the Best Men’s International Debutant award and attended the ceremony on crutches, while IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal stepped down from the stage to present him the honour.

KKR’s early-season pressure

KKR head into the Monday match under pressure after losing their opening two IPL 2026 games. They were beaten by Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in consecutive outings, leaving them still searching for their first points of the campaign.

With the points table already becoming a concern, weather could add to their difficulties. Forecasts point to a strong possibility of rain affecting the clash against Punjab Kings, which could force a shortened contest if conditions deteriorate.

The rain worry is not limited to the single match either. KKR also have another fixture against Lucknow Super Giants at the same venue, and that game carries a similar rain indication, potentially compounding early-season disruption.

Persistent cloud cover has been reported since morning, linked to a “low-pressure trough stretching from Bihar to Manipur, passing over North Bengal, Assam and Bangladesh,” as described by the IMD. The weather system suggests another spell of Kalbaishakhi storms, with the chance of hail and thunderstorms running from Sunday through Thursday.

The IMD further expects the heaviest impact to arrive around Tuesday and Wednesday. It also forecast more severe conditions on Tuesday, when Kalbaishakhi storms may bring winds of 50–60 kmph along with lightning and rain across Kolkata and nearby areas.
