Kohli’s anchor knock reshuffles IPL 2026 Orange Cap standings after RCB win

RCB’s five-wicket triumph over GT on Friday night has stirred up the IPL 2026 standings, with fresh movement visible in both the Orange Cap and Purple Cap races.

Orange Cap: Kohli’s timely knock reshapes the leaderboard

Virat Kohli, operating in familiar fashion, provided the anchor in RCB’s chase. The team required 206 runs to win, and Kohli opened the batting, staying there until the 14th over. Although he didn’t see the chase through to the end, his 81 off 44 balls set the platform, and he was also named Player of the Match.

  • Kohli has accumulated 328 runs from seven innings.
  • That total is five runs ahead of Abhishek Sharma (SRH), who sits in second place.

Heinrich Klaasen of SRH is next in line with 320 runs, while Shubman Gill of GT follows behind them. Gill’s 32-ball effort against RCB helped him reach 297 runs for the season.

  • Gill’s 297 runs lift him above Sanju Samson (CSK).
  • Samson is pushed down to fifth position as a result.

There was also upward movement for two more batters after the RCB-GT contest. Rajat Patidar, captaining RCB, managed only 8 against GT—his second consecutive low score—but he pulled level with Ishan Kishan of SRH on 238 runs. The points are tied on runs, with the difference in strike rate leaving Patidar at eight on the tie-break and Kishan at nine.

  • Rajat Patidar (RCB): 8 vs GT; second straight low score; finishes on 238 runs.
  • Ishan Kishan (SRH): level on 238 runs, separated by strike-rate tie-break.

GT opener B Sai Sudharsan also climbed the rankings. He struck a 58-ball century—his knock being the fifth century of the season across the league—to move into the tenth spot in the Orange Cap standings.

Purple Cap: fewer wickets for GT, but Bhuvneshwar’s haul keeps pressure on

In the bowling department, the RCB-GT match saw only eight wickets fall, and GT’s Prasidh Krishna did not take any of them. As a result, he remains stuck in joint-third place. Eshan Malinga of SRH is next in the race with 12 wickets, sitting behind Anshul Kamboj of CSK and Prince Yadav of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

  • Only eight wickets were taken in the match.
  • None of the wickets went to GT’s Prasidh Krishna.
  • Prasidh Krishna stays at joint-third.
  • Eshan Malinga (SRH) has 12 wickets, behind Anshul Kamboj (CSK) and Prince Yadav (LSG).

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, however, made a key breakthrough by dismissing Jos Buttler. That wicket lifted his season tally to 11 wickets, matching the combined wicket count of the Rajasthan Royals’ pair of Jofra Archer and Ravi Bishnoi. All three sit just behind the leading group of four.

  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismisses Jos Buttler.
  • Bhuvneshwar reaches 11 wickets for the season.
  • Jofra Archer and Ravi Bishnoi (RR) are also on 11 wickets.
  • The trio are placed behind the top four.
