NEW DELHI: Lucknow Super Giants—already out of the race for the playoffs—delivered a major blow to Chennai Super Kings’ hopes of advancing in IPL 2026 with a convincing victory at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday.
After limiting CSK to 187/5, LSG chased the target down with 20 balls remaining to clinch a seven-wicket win. It was their fourth triumph in 12 matches. The innings featured a standout spell from Akash Singh, who produced figures of 3/26 in his opening appearance of the season.
The result pushed LSG’s points to 8, but they stayed rooted at the bottom of the 10-team table. For CSK, the defeat carried extra weight: they are still technically alive in the playoff battle, yet they slid down one place to sixth. Their net run rate (NRR) now sits below that of Rajasthan Royals, who also have a game in hand.
CSK currently have 12 points from 12 games, while RR are on 12 points from 11. With 11 league matches remaining, the IPL 2026 standings are led by defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who top the table with 16 points. Gujarat Titans are next, also on 16 points, but behind on NRR.
Sunrisers Hyderabad occupy third place with 14 points, and Punjab Kings are fourth with 13. Beyond CSK and still in contention are Delhi Capitals with 10 points and Kolkata Knight Riders with 9. Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are the only teams already confirmed out of playoff qualification.
