Lucknow Super Giants opener Mitchell Marsh struck form in the IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. The right-hander made 40 runs from 32 balls, featuring three fours and two maximums, including one that cleared the venue roof.
Marsh’s roof-top hit
- Mitchell Marsh scored 40 off 32 balls for LSG.
- His knock included three fours and two sixes.
- One six left the stadium on the final delivery of the third over of the LSG innings.
- The ball travelled 102 metres.
- Bhuvneshwar bowled the short ball that Marsh pulled over deep mid-wicket.
The defining moment arrived in the third over. On the last ball of that over, Bhuvneshwar delivered a short ball and Marsh fetched it with power, clearing deep mid-wicket and sailing beyond the stadium’s roof.
So explosive was the strike that it was timed at a 102-metre carry, turning the hit into instant highlight material during the innings.
Toss and team news
Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the toss and chose to bowl first against Lucknow Super Giants. RCB made a single alteration to their XI, with Josh Hazlewood coming in for Jacob Duffy, while Virat Kohli was named as an impact player.
Lucknow Super Giants, meanwhile, stuck with the same playing group and made no changes before the start.
After winning the toss, RCB captain Rajat Patidar said the plan was straightforward: bowl first to make the most of the early conditions and keep pressure on the opposition. He also noted that the wicket looked to offer a good batting surface, contrasting it with the previous match that had plenty of grass.
Patidar added that the team had been working on improvements and was coming into the different stages of the tournament ready to execute. He reiterated the only personnel switch, confirming Hazlewood’s inclusion in place of Duffy.
For LSG, skipper Rishabh Pant responded after the toss went against them, saying the pitch offered a good opportunity to bat. He felt that on such wickets, teams can either bat first or bowl first, but stressed the importance of playing better cricket as the match progresses.
Pant underlined the need for the group to regroup and take ownership of their roles, while also avoiding overthinking on performance. He expressed confidence in leadership within the dressing room, saying that leaders in the squad must translate that into action on the field and handle the pressure together.
