The latest reshuffle in IPL 2026’s Orange and Purple Cap races has been subtle at the very top, but the middle of both charts is starting to heat up. After Match No. 24, Punjab Kings (PBKS) turned in a convincing display against Mumbai Indians (MI), and the effort has nudged a couple of names into fresh spotlight positions.
Quick facts (after Match No. 24)
- PBKS beat MI in Match No. 24.
- Prabhsimran Singh made 80* off 39 balls, while Shreyas Iyer scored 66 off 35.
- Orange Cap: Prabhsimran moves to No. 5; Shreyas Iyer sits at No. 6.
- Purple Cap: Shardul Thakur enters the top ten at No. 10 with six wickets.
- Purple Cap leaders remain unchanged from No. 1 through No. 9.
Orange Cap leaderboard
PBKS’s batter-led dominance over MI came through Prabhsimran Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer. Prabhsimran powered an unbeaten 80 off 39 deliveries, while Iyer struck a composed 66 off 35 balls as the chase and tempo effectively swung in PBKS’s favour from the outset.
With those knocks, Prabhsimran has climbed to the fifth spot in the standings. The names immediately above and around him include Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the top, along with Heinrich Klaasen of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), RCB’s Rajat Patidar, and SRH’s Ishan Kishan positioned between them.
Prabhsimran and Iyer have both been steady contributors for PBKS throughout the season. The opener has recorded 37, 43, 51, and 80 not out, compiling 211 runs across four innings at a strike rate of 172.95. Iyer, meanwhile, has added 18, 50, 69 not out, and 66 to reach 203 runs, and he currently occupies No. 6.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) had a different story elsewhere in the week. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who had been leading the batting chart not long ago, has dropped to seventh after a duck against SRH earlier in the week.
Purple Cap leaderboard
The Purple Cap standings, however, have been largely stable from the top down. Positions from No. 1 through No. 9 remain the same, but MI’s Shardul Thakur has broken into the top ten after taking a wicket tied to Iyer’s dismissal on Thursday.
Thakur now sits at No. 10 with six wickets. He shares that wicket tally with Jacob Duffy of RCB and Vaibhav Arora of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), keeping the mid-table race tight.
At the very top of the wicket-takers list, Prasidh Krishna of Gujarat Titans (GT) and Anshul Kamboj of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lead the chart with ten scalps apiece. Right behind them are Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi, representing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and RR respectively, with nine wickets each.
Below that pair, Jofra Archer of RR has seven wickets, and so do the RCB bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya. The spread suggests the biggest movement is happening just outside the inner circle, with several teams still within reach of the leaders.
