Australia have unveiled their squads for an ODI series against Pakistan and a separate white-ball tour of Bangladesh, spanning May and June 2026. The selection comes with a busy IPL backdrop, with Mitchell Marsh—currently in the league—stepping in as the key figure across three updated groups. Three established fast-bowling names from Australia’s recent ODI plans—Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood—are not part of any of the squads announced.
At a glance
- ODI tour of Pakistan and white-ball tour of Bangladesh take place across May and June 2026.
- Mitchell Marsh captains all three squads; he is currently playing in the IPL.
- Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are absent from the Pakistan ODIs, Bangladesh ODIs and Bangladesh T20Is squads.
- Billy Stanlake and Riley Meredith return to Australia’s ODI set-up.
- Ollie Peake, Liam Scott and Joel Davies receive their first senior Australia call-ups.
- Peake is included for the Pakistan ODIs only; Scott is picked for Bangladesh ODIs; Davies makes the T20I group versus Bangladesh.
- Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis and Xavier Bartlett are named for the Bangladesh phase after the Pakistan ODIs.
- Glenn Maxwell, who has retired from ODIs, is not selected for the T20Is.
- Scott was Sheffield Shield Player of the Year in 2025/26; Davies was Big Bash League Most Valuable Player in 2025/26.
- Peake captained Australia at the 2026 U19 World Cup and has also advanced to the Australia A team.
Stanlake and Meredith are among the headline recalls for Australia’s ODI campaign, giving the pace unit a refreshed look for the subcontinent swing. New faces also feature prominently: Ollie Peake, Liam Scott and Joel Davies each earn maiden senior call-ups, reflecting a strong domestic pipeline ahead of the next cycle.
Where the new call-ups fit
Peake’s inclusion is limited to the ODI leg versus Pakistan, while Scott is also part of the Bangladesh ODI squad. Davies, meanwhile, is selected only for the T20I group against Bangladesh, underlining how Australia have reshaped personnel depending on format and opposition.
Once the action moves from Pakistan to Bangladesh, Australia rotate several players to match conditions and requirements. Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis and Xavier Bartlett—currently tied to the IPL and expected to play in the playoffs—are drafted in for the Bangladesh ODIs and/or T20Is, replacing Peake, Stanlake, Meredith and Matt Short as the schedule changes.
There is also a clear note on availability and role clarity: Glenn Maxwell, who has already retired from ODIs, does not make the cut for the Bangladesh T20I squad. With squad selection tied closely to domestic form and upcoming international commitments, Australia have opted for a blend of returning experience and fresh talent.
The trio’s pathways to the national side are rooted in recent domestic success. Scott was named the Sheffield Shield Player of the Year in 2025/26, while Davies collected the Most Valuable Player award at the 2025/26 Big Bash League. Peake’s rise has been equally rapid—he captained Australia at the 2026 U19 World Cup and has since moved up through the Australia A ranks.
Selectors have framed the decision as a deliberate mix of continuity and experimentation for tours in Asian conditions. George Bailey, chair of selectors, said it is “always exciting to see new players get an opportunity to play international cricket and be a part of the national team,” adding that pairing experienced campaigners with new or returning players will create a “nice mix” for the subcontinent trips.
