Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta has explained why her franchise no longer wears the silver shade that once defined its look, saying the change came after a directive from the BCCI. The clarification emerged after a fan on X urged the team to return to its “red and silver” jersey, recalling Adam Gilchrist taking his only wicket while wearing the old colours. In reply, Zinta confirmed that the governing body no longer allows teams to include white, grey, or silver in the playing kit, and added that the ban was introduced because complaints were raised about visibility of the white ball when silver was used in match attire.
Why Punjab Kings dropped silver
A fan’s comment on X, posted in response to a Zinta update, asked Punjab to “bring back its Red and silver jersey,” describing it as the best look ever and reminiscing about Gilchrist’s memorable moment. Zinta then responded with the key reason behind the redesign, pointing to BCCI restrictions.
“Silver got banned by the BCCI because teams complained they could not see the white ball against the silver,” Zinta said, while also expressing that she misses the older colour scheme too. She went on to note that the BCCI no longer permits franchises to use white, grey, or silver in their on-field uniforms.
With the silver element removed, Punjab Kings’ visual identity shifted from its earlier red-and-grey combination. The franchise moved to a red-and-blue look during its campaigns, pairing red jerseys with blue trousers.
