Punjab Kings Openers Make IPL History: Uncapped Duo Hits 1,000 Runs

Punjab Kings openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya have made a landmark mark in IPL history by becoming the first ever uncapped duo to put together 1,000 partnership runs in the league. The milestone came during their Indian Premier League 2026 meeting against Mumbai Indians at the HPCA Stadium on Thursday.

Quick facts

  • Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya became the first uncapped pair to reach 1,000 IPL partnership runs.
  • The record was made against Mumbai Indians at HPCA Stadium in IPL 2026 on Thursday.
  • They added 50 runs for the opening wicket before Deepak Chahar dismissed Arya for 22 in the final Powerplay over.
  • Arya’s 22 came as part of a run spree: 475 runs in 2025 and 357* in 2026.
  • With his 22, Arya became only the second uncapped Indian to score 350+ in each of his first two IPL seasons.
  • Prabhsimran struck his second half-century of the season in the 11th over, reaching 57 off 32 balls.
  • He hit six fours and four sixes, then was dismissed by Shardul Thakur in the very next over.
  • PBKS finished on 200/8, helped by Prabhsimran’s fifty and lower-order contributions.

The two batters started briskly, stitching a 50-run opening stand that set the tone for Punjab’s innings. In the closing over of the Powerplay, Deepak Chahar broke the pair’s momentum by removing Priyansh Arya, who made 22.

Even though Arya’s stay at the crease ended early, his knock carried a significant statistical footprint. By reaching 22, Priyansh Arya joined a rare club as only the second uncapped Indian to total 350 or more runs in each of his first two IPL seasons. His season numbers read 475 in 2025 and an unbeaten 357* in 2026, matching the benchmark set by Ambati Rayudu, who managed 356 in 2010 and 395 in 2011.

Prabhsimran’s half-century and the dismissal that followed

Prabhsimran Singh then took over the scoring momentum for Punjab, bringing up his second fifty of the season against Mumbai Indians in the 11th over. He reached the milestone in emphatic fashion, launching a huge six as his innings gathered pace.

He produced a sharp, entertaining knock of 57 off only 32 balls, striking six boundaries along with four maximums. The innings, however, was not allowed to run away—Shardul Thakur removed the right-hander in the very next over, cutting short what looked like a possible bigger score.

Prabhsimran’s wider IPL progression has also turned him into one of the more consistent uncapped names in recent seasons. Across multiple years, he has accumulated 400-plus runs, with totals of 549 in 2025 and 438* in 2026. He joins Suryakumar Yadav (2018, 2019, 2020) and Abhishek Sharma (2022, 2024) as the third uncapped Indian to manage 400 runs in more than one IPL season.

As for the match itself, Punjab Kings built their innings around the fluent half-century from Prabhsimran Singh and additional contributions from the lower order. Those efforts proved enough to post a competitive total of 200/8 as the innings came to an end.
