Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became one of the most talked-about names of IPL 2026, delivering a campaign that looked almost unbelievable coming from a 15-year-old. Throughout the tournament, the Rajasthan Royals batter blended steady output with aggressive, fearless batting, repeatedly turning pressure moments into productive ones. When the season ended, he had amassed 776 runs at an eye-catching strike rate of 237.30, a mark that made him the first player in IPL history to cross 600 runs in a single campaign while also finishing above a strike rate of 200. It wasn’t just about explosive phases—his knack for controlling bowling attacks without losing his rhythm is what separated him from the rest.
Sooryavanshi’s impact was just as clear when the stakes were highest. He struck a match-defining 93 against Lucknow Super Giants, then followed it with a rapid 97 versus Sunrisers Hyderabad. In Qualifier 2, he again showed his temperament with a fighting 96 against Gujarat Titans. Rajasthan’s run ended after that qualifier, meaning his efforts couldn’t deliver the final spot, but the performances still stood out as evidence that he could lift his game when the tournament demanded it. Even though the Royals fell short of the title, his season ensured that his individual numbers and moments will be remembered as one of the most extraordinary in IPL history.
After this breakthrough year, even Rajasthan captain Riyan Parag struggled to fully put into words what he was seeing from the teenager. Parag said it wasn’t simply a case of swinging from ball one, pointing out that Sooryavanshi’s batting looked planned rather than reckless. “I can’t really put it in words. There’s one way where you just go and slog and then you get a lot of runs. But the way he’s batted, it’s not just slogging. It’s not blind slogging. You can’t do what you just did today if you were just going from ball one. He calculates, he assesses conditions. He does literally everything well. I still can’t figure out how,” Parag said following the match.
A record-breaking season for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Sooryavanshi didn’t just impress—he rewrote key parts of the IPL record book during the season. Among his achievements was the most sixes in a single IPL campaign. He struck 72 maximums, surpassing Chris Gayle’s long-standing benchmark of 59, a record that had remained intact since the 2012 season.
With the numbers already extraordinary, Parag also looked ahead, backing the youngster to keep raising the bar in the seasons to come. The skipper expressed hope that Sooryavanshi would go on to bring success for both India and Rajasthan Royals. “Hopefully he keeps doing that. Hopefully he represents our country and brings more laurels to the country. And hopefully he keeps on playing for Rajasthan Royals and gets us to that second championship,” Parag concluded.
