RCB Bowl First in Delhi: Patidar Opts to Field as Salt Misses Again

Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar opted to bowl as his side took on Delhi Capitals in Delhi. Phil Salt, the RCB opener, missed a second consecutive match due to injury. Jacob Bethell was not named in RCB’s bowl-first XI, but he figures as the most likely candidate to be introduced as the Impact Player when RCB bat later.

RCB are placed second in the IPL 2026 standings, while Delhi sit sixth.

Rajasthan Challengers Bengaluru made no alterations to their XI, but Delhi Capitals brought in three changes. Lungi Ngidi, who had suffered a head injury after hitting the ground during the fielding phase against Punjab Kings on Saturday, was later transported to hospital by ambulance. He has been declared stable, yet was ruled out of this fixture. Dushmantha Chameera came into the XI to replace him. Pathum Nissanka and Mukesh Kumar were also left out, with Sahil Parakh and New Zealand speedster Kyle Jamieson earning their spots.

Parakh, aged 18, is a talented batter from Maharashtra known for a range of strokes. He has also previously represented India at the Under-19 level. Ahead of the season, Delhi’s director of cricket Venugopal Rao had singled out Parakh as a player to keep under watch.

On Saturday, Delhi produced a run-fest in which they managed 265 while Punjab Kings were all out for 264 on pitch number 6—marking the second-highest total combined in a T20 match. Rahul struck an unbeaten 152, the only Indian to reach 150-plus in the IPL, yet still ended up on the losing side. The contest on Monday shifts to a different track (pitch number 5). Earlier this season on that surface, Gujarat Titans posted 210, and Delhi fell short by one run on April 8.
