RCB vs DC: Defending champs unveil green jerseys for IPL 2026 sustainability push

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look to send out a clear message beyond the boundary when they host Delhi Capitals at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday in IPL 2026. The defending champions are expected to step onto the field in their iconic green jerseys as part of their long-running “Green Initiative”, once again placing sustainability at the heart of their identity.

The Bengaluru franchise says the kit will be crafted entirely from recycled materials, turning what could have been a one-off visual into a statement of intent. The jerseys are positioned as a visible reminder of a broader, long-term commitment to environmental responsibility. In an official release, the club claims it remains the only carbon-neutral T20 franchise globally, highlighting the scale of its work over the years.

Green Initiative: how it has grown

  1. The programme first took shape in 2011, setting the foundation for what would become a sustained sustainability effort.
  2. Over time, it has developed into a structured framework with an emphasis on accountability, measurement, and connecting with fans.
  3. RCB say the ultimate ambition is to move beyond carbon neutral and work towards becoming carbon positive, with sustainability integrated into multiple parts of day-to-day operations.

RCB CEO Rajesh Menon spoke about the years of effort behind the recognition, adding: “Achieving carbon-neutral status as a T20 franchise is the result of years of dedicated work. The green jerseys reflect this commitment, and we hope this initiative inspires our fans and stakeholders to embrace more responsible and sustainable practices.”

Match build-up: RCB’s form vs DC’s inconsistency

While RCB’s off-field messaging is drawing attention, their on-field results have also backed their confidence. In IPL 2026, they have started strongly, winning four of their opening five matches. Their only loss in that stretch came against Rajasthan Royals. With the franchise currently sitting second in the points standings, they arrive at this contest carrying momentum and belief.

Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, have had a more stop-start campaign so far. They opened IPL 2026 with two straight wins, but the momentum faded quickly as they suffered back-to-back defeats afterwards. As a result, they are placed fifth in the points table and will be looking to find consistency when they travel to Bengaluru.
