Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant has received a fine of INR 12 lakh after his team was ruled guilty of a slow over-rate during their IPL 2026 meeting with Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The incident came in Match No. 59 of the season, with the franchise failing to complete its quota of 20 overs within the time window set for the contest. As captain, Pant is held responsible for making sure the side maintains the required tempo throughout the innings, and the IPL Governing Council took action once the over-rate requirement was not met.
The tournament authorities confirmed that the offence falls under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals specifically with minimum over-rate breaches. Since this was Lucknow’s first such case of the season, the punishment was set at INR 12 lakh. In its official communication, the IPL stated: “Rishabh Pant, Captain, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 59 of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday.”
The IPL also noted that the sanction was applied because it was Lucknow’s initial charge under Article 2.22 related to minimum over-rate. As a result, Pant’s fine was fixed at INR 12 lakhs.
