Lucknow Super Giants looked in control with the ball for much of the contest, but a brief burst of fielding chaos featuring Rishabh Pant became the defining talking point of the match. The incident ultimately cost the Royals a potential run-out—one that should have been routine in T20 cricket, where split-second decisions decide outcomes.
The mix-up unfolded during Mayank Yadav’s over. Ravindra Jadeja tucked a slower delivery through square leg and immediately signalled for a quick single. Jadeja then tried to press for a second run, only for the situation to unravel when he sent his partner Donovan Ferreira back toward the crease, leaving Ferreira stranded some distance down the pitch.
At that stage, it seemed like a straightforward opportunity for Nicholas Pooran’s side to execute the run-out. Pooran’s throw, however, missed the target, which forced Pant to step in and move toward the ball to complete the chance. Pant managed to dislodge the stumps at first, but the confusion that followed meant he couldn’t maintain control of the situation.
As the scramble continued, Pant stumbled while collecting the ball cleanly, then fumbled the attempt to disturb the stumps again. That small opening was enough for Ferreira to regain his position, recover, and dive back into his crease just in time. Even though the batter was nowhere near the crease and appeared out of the frame at one point, Rajasthan survived thanks entirely to the breakdown in execution.
The moment spread quickly online, with supporters reacting in disbelief. One fan captured the frustration with a post that read: “Rishabh Pant 1st dislodged the stumps, the batter was not even in the frame but still they didn't make him run out. PSL things in IPL”.
What made the lapse even more noticeable was that it occurred in the middle of an otherwise disciplined spell from Lucknow. Earlier, the side had kept Rajasthan Royals to 159 for 6, setting up a competitive platform.
While Pant had already shown sharpness behind the stumps with several clean contributions, this miscommunication and execution error turned into one of the most discussed incidents of the match—an illustration of how quickly momentum can slip in the shortest format.
