Riyan Parag’s Struggles Continue as RR Falter Again vs KKR in IPL 2026

Riyan Parag’s already lean run with the bat in IPL 2026 has continued, with the Rajasthan Royals skipper producing another disappointing contribution as his side fell short in their chase of momentum. In the match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Parag made just 12 runs from 14 balls. While his approach as captain has stayed composed and steady, the lack of runs from the middle order is beginning to weigh heavily on the Royals at pivotal stages.

Rajasthan’s captain’s output has been difficult to ignore. In IPL 2026, Parag has managed only 61 runs across six appearances, with a top score of 20. His average sits at 12.20, and his strike rate is 122, numbers that reflect a prolonged slump for a batter expected to hold the middle overs together. Even with the struggles at the crease, there has been little question about his leadership. Parag has handled the pressure of captaincy thoughtfully, using bowlers in a sensible rhythm and keeping his composure when matches have slipped away.

In this particular game, the Royals looked set for a big total early on after being sent in. Yashasvi Jaiswal and the young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made the most of the Powerplay, moving quickly as they raced to 63 without losing a wicket. Their scoring rate climbed above 10 runs per over, and the KKR pace attack—struggling to find rhythm—was kept under pressure throughout the opening phase. At that stage, it seemed RR were heading toward a score comfortably beyond 180.

That plan changed once spin came into play. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine struck in combination, turning the innings on its head and forcing the Royals to reassess their momentum. Chakravarthy removed Sooryavanshi for 46, and the dismissal triggered a sharp collapse that pushed RR from a commanding position to 118/4. Parag arrived during this critical period but was unable to stabilise the batting. He struggled to find boundaries consistently and couldn’t counter the threat posed by the spinners, eventually falling for 12 as the Royals continued to lose wickets.

Chakravarthy’s impact was central to the turnaround, finishing with figures of 3/14, while Narine added 2/26 to tighten the middle overs and choke the scoring. By the end of the innings, Rajasthan managed 155/9—far short of what their start suggested they were capable of. For Parag, however, the clearest issue remains his own batting form: captaincy has shown maturity, but RR will need their skipper to start delivering with the bat if they want their campaign to regain traction.
