Robin Singh Ends 16-Year Spell With Mumbai Indians, Parts Ways With MI Emirates

NEW DELHI: A significant chapter in the Mumbai Indians story has drawn to a close, with former India all-rounder Robin Singh formally announcing that he is stepping away from the franchise after a 16-year run. Robin confirmed on Friday that his association has ended with both Mumbai Indians and their overseas affiliate, MI Emirates, bringing an end to one of the longest-serving support-staff tenures in franchise cricket.

In a post shared on social media, Robin explained that he has “officially parted ways with the Mumbai Indians.” He noted that while he has not been part of the franchise’s IPL set-up since 2022, his involvement also concluded this year with their team in the Emirates league. He then extended gratitude to the franchise and its supporters for the backing they offered throughout his journey, which began in 2010. Robin wrote: “Thank you to the entire MI family and the fans for the support through this remarkable journey of mine since 2010. Wishing the franchise good luck in the years ahead.”

Robin’s arrival in 2010 proved to be a defining moment for the franchise’s internal structure during its most dominant phase. Over the years, he became a key presence behind the scenes and was part of the working group during all five IPL title-winning campaigns. His contributions were not limited to league cricket either, as he also played a role in Mumbai Indians’ two Champions League Twenty20 successes.

From IPL support to wider MI responsibilities

Although his direct responsibilities within Mumbai Indians’ IPL unit ended in 2022, Robin continued to stay connected with the broader ecosystem of the franchise. He took charge as general manager of MI Emirates during the inaugural International League T20 season in 2023, and later was promoted to head of the franchise in 2024. The latest development, therefore, not only closes his involvement in the Emirates setup but also marks the end of a larger coaching and leadership era for the organization, formed across multiple seasons and squads.

Before transitioning fully into coaching and franchise roles, Robin had built his reputation on the international stage. He represented India in 136 ODI matches, compiling 2,336 runs and claiming 69 wickets. That playing background later translated into a respected coaching career, with Robin becoming one of the more sought-after figures in T20 leagues around the world.

With his departure now confirmed, Mumbai Indians will look to reshape their internal plans and leadership arrangements as they move forward. Robin’s long association leaves a clear legacy across title campaigns and major trophies, and his final message has set the tone for a farewell built on gratitude and well-wishes for the franchise’s next chapter.
