Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2026 meeting with Sunrisers Hyderabad turned into a tense moment for the franchise after teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi limped off the field shortly following his record-shattering century. With the youngster left clutching his right thigh, RR’s batting staff moved quickly to assess the damage, and the team has now provided an update on his condition.
The 15-year-old’s problem appeared to surface during the early stages of the second innings. Fielding from the covers, Sooryavanshi sprinted in to chase a lofted shot from Ishan Kishan, but he suddenly pulled up, holding his thigh as he showed clear discomfort. Unable to continue normally, he was supported off the ground by the team physio, triggering immediate worry about whether it was a hamstring concern.
Initial observations hinted at a possible hamstring injury. However, later indications suggested the discomfort may have been linked more to severe cramping than a tear. After spending a prolonged spell at the crease in punishing conditions, the physical strain—made worse by the heat in Jaipur—seemed to catch up with the young batter.
Before the scare, Sooryavanshi had scripted one of IPL 2026’s most explosive innings. He struck 103 off just 37 balls, smashing 12 sixes and five fours at a breathtaking strike rate of 278.38. It was a knock that immediately set the tone for Rajasthan’s efforts.
Speaking after the incident, RR batting coach Vikram Rathour played down the seriousness of the injury, saying: “He was feeling something on his hamstring, but now he’s looking okay. He has been treated and is doing fine. We’ll know more in a day or so, but it doesn’t look anything serious,” Rathour confirmed.
Despite Sooryavanshi’s century, Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down a challenging 229 successfully, defeating Rajasthan by five wickets. The chase was largely built around a destructive 132-run partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan. Abhishek struck 57 off 29, while Kishan made 74 off 31, with both batters reaching their fifties in only 24 deliveries combined. Even with a couple of missed chances early on, the pair turned the chase into a routine pursuit of the target.
After the two main contributors were dismissed, SRH still had enough firepower to finish the job. Heinrich Klaasen added 29, while Nitish Kumar Reddy remained unbeaten on 36, helping Hyderabad complete the chase with nine balls to spare.
Earlier in the match, Sooryavanshi had stolen the spotlight with his brilliant 103 off 37 balls, with Dhruv Jurel providing support through a 51. However, once Sooryavanshi fell, Rajasthan’s momentum dipped, and their final total of 228/6 proved inadequate on a surface that played well for batting.
