Sarfaraz Khan Hails CSK Loyalty After IPL 2026 Exit

Chennai Super Kings batter Sarfaraz Khan found it hard to get regular chances in the IPL 2026 season. When he did receive opportunities, he made the most of them by accumulating 161 runs, finishing with a batting average of 23 and a strike rate of 169.47. Despite CSK being in a strong position to reach the playoffs, the team’s campaign slipped after three successive defeats, ultimately ending their run in the tournament. Even with his limited role, Sarfaraz took to Instagram to post a heartfelt message of commitment to CSK supporters as his season concluded.

In the post, Sarfaraz wrote: “The best two months that’s been. My heart will bleed Yellow…thanku so much @chennaiipl thank you csk fans,” marking the end of his IPL 2026 stint with the franchise.

MS Dhoni’s future becomes the key talking point

One of the biggest subjects that emerged after CSK’s IPL season finished was the question of what lies ahead for captain MS Dhoni. CSK bowling coach Eric Simons addressed the situation, stating that Dhoni missed the entire season because of a calf injury, but also revealed that the 44-year-old has been batting well during training sessions.

Simons said Dhoni has been striking the ball powerfully in the nets, adding that his timing and impact were as good as they had ever looked. He also highlighted that, alongside the calf issue, Dhoni has been managing a leg problem that has restricted his running, which is why he was unable to play matches during the season.

When asked whether fans might see Dhoni bat in the next IPL, Simons explained that Dhoni continues to hit the ball brilliantly in the nets despite the limitations on his movement. He further emphasized that the final call will be taken by Dhoni himself, and that the veteran’s decision will be made with what benefits the team most, rather than personal considerations. Simons added that having Dhoni around the camp would be a positive development if he chooses to return.

Simons elaborated in detail, saying Dhoni had been able to hit the ball extremely well, but the leg injury made it difficult for him to run, which prevented him from featuring in games. He stressed that only Dhoni knows when he is ready and when he feels right to play. Simons also noted that if Dhoni believes he is not fit, he will not take the field, but if he is in the right condition, he will play. In his view, Dhoni’s choice would be driven by what is best for the team, and Simons reiterated that it would be “great to have him playing,” while also stating how valuable it has been to have him around the group.

The comments were shared by Eric Simons in the post-match press conference after the GT vs CSK clash.
