Shaun Tait’s Bangladesh future in doubt ahead of Australia home series

Bangladesh’s pace bowling coach Shaun Tait may not continue with the national team setup, with his participation in the forthcoming home series against Australia now in serious doubt. A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) development indicates that Tait has already communicated his intentions to the board, though his exact availability remains uncertain. It is not yet clear whether he will report on June 3, as planned, to take part in the preparation camp ahead of the Australia tour, which features three One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a BCB official said there is uncertainty over whether Tait will arrive to join the squad before the Australia series, adding that he is not in a position to continue his role and has cited family reasons.

Tait is currently contracted with the BCB through the 2027 ODI World Cup. He joined the Bangladesh setup in May 2025 and has been credited with a productive spell during his tenure. One of the key areas of impact has been his work in developing young fast bowler Nahid Rana, who has risen in recent seasons with his pace and has been regarded as one of the most promising talents in Bangladesh cricket.

Australia are scheduled to tour Bangladesh from June 9 to June 21 for a six-game white-ball assignment. The ODI leg will be staged at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on June 9, June 11, and June 14. After that, the sides will move to Chattogram for the T20I series, with matches to be played at the Bir Shreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium on June 17, June 19, and June 21.

In the lead-up to the series, there have also been reports suggesting that Tait is interested in joining Bengal’s coaching group in India, and that he has already attended an interview in connection with the role.
