Shubman Gill delivered a commanding display for Gujarat Titans on Friday night, anchoring a seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2026 Qualifier 2. Chasing a challenging 215, Gill powered the Titans’ response with a century, guiding his side home with eight balls remaining. Earlier in the match, Rajasthan had set a substantial target by posting 214/6 in 20 overs, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again stealing the spotlight through a rapid 96 off the age of 15.
The result propelled Gujarat into the IPL 2026 final, where they will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday. For Gill, it was another influential outing in a season where he has consistently carried the batting load for his franchise.
After the match, Gujarat’s Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki was asked about Gill’s mindset and temperament, particularly in light of his recent omission from India’s T20I setup. Gill was left out of India’s squad for the T20I series against New Zealand, and he was also not named for the T20 World Cup 2026, which came just ahead of the IPL.
Solanki responded by pointing to Gill’s routine and professionalism. “Yeah, it was exactly as it has been throughout the five years that he’s been a part of this group. He was preparing exactly as he has done before. As I sort of said, he’s a wonderful talent. The fact, I think T20 cricket is a format that you have to ride the indifferent times as much as work hard when you are playing well. So that’s a given thing. He’s played so much cricket, he’s so experienced for somebody so young,” the GT official said.
He further stressed that handling both success and setbacks is central to a professional career. “He knows how to deal with all of those matters—success, failure. Professional sport is about dealing with exactly that. He was very measured when he arrived in our camp. His preparation has been on point, as it always is. Regardless of format, regardless of whatever jersey he’s wearing, I’m pretty sure his preparation is on point. And that’s exactly how he arrived this year,” Solanki added.
Gill’s season numbers underline why Gujarat have leaned on him so heavily. He has amassed 722 runs so far, with much of the scoring burden shared alongside opening partner Sai Sudharsan, who has also produced 710 runs. Both batters have been striking at a healthy pace, with a strike rate of 160, highlighting how effectively they have converted starts into match-defining contributions.
With his 100-plus and the composure to see Gujarat through a target of 215, Gill delivered a batting masterclass in the chase, helping the Titans secure a place in their third final in five seasons.
