Whenever Punjab Kings (PBKS) or Rajasthan Royals (RR) take the field in IPL 2026, the Orange Cap standings tend to shift dramatically—and Tuesday night’s clash in New Chandigarh was no exception.
Orange Cap: Sooryavanshi’s surge
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi—who else—has returned to the summit of the season’s highest run-getters list after smashing 43 off just 16 deliveries, a knock that included five sixes. That performance has also made him the first batter in the tournament this year to cross the 400-run mark.
Sooryavanshi had a short wobble after beginning the campaign with scores of 52, 31, 39 and 78, but he has bounced back strongly. He added 46 and 103 in two of his last three innings before Tuesday’s knock, and those numbers have carried him back to first place.
- Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: back on top; 400+ runs after 43 off 16 balls with five sixes
- Abhishek Sharma (SRH): 380 runs
- KL Rahul (DC): 358 runs
- Virat Kohli (RCB): 351 runs
- Heinrich Klaasen (SRH): 349 runs
- Prabhsimran Singh (PBKS): No. 6 with 346 runs, after scoring 59 off 44 balls (slower than his usual output)
Shreyas Iyer, Prabhsimran’s captain, is placed at No. 10 following Tuesday’s match. He scored 30 off 27 balls, bringing his season total to 309.
Purple Cap: Archer strikes early in New Chandigarh
Jofra Archer provided the opening breakthrough in New Chandigarh by getting Priyansh Arya to depart first. That early wicket has lifted Archer’s wicket tally to 14, and it now places him level at the top of the Purple Cap table alongside three other bowlers: RCB’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar, CSK’s Anshul Kamboj, and SRH’s Eshan Malinga.
- Jofra Archer: 14 wickets (top of the table, joint)
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar (RCB): 14 wickets (joint top); economy rate 7.61
- Anshul Kamboj (CSK): 14 wickets (joint top); economy rate 8.56
- Eshan Malinga (SRH): 14 wickets (joint top); economy rate 9.44
Archer’s economy rate stands at 8.27.
Behind the leaders, Prince Yadav of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kagiso Rabada of Gujarat Titans (GT) are next in line with 13 wickets apiece.
