Sunrisers Hyderabad’s campaign in IPL 2026 has taken a sudden turn with an injury ruling out one of their key squad members before he could feature. A day after SRH produced a standout win over Rajasthan Royals, the franchise confirmed that all-rounder Brydon Carse will miss the rest of the tournament.
Quick facts
- Brydon Carse has been ruled out of IPL 2026 due to injury without playing a single match.
- SRH have named Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka as Carse’s replacement for the remainder of the season.
- Madushanka is a left-arm medium pacer and will join SRH for INR 75 lakh.
- Madushanka has not played an IPL match so far.
- SRH’s next match is against Chennai Super Kings at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, on Saturday.
SRH, the 2016 champions, announced that they have secured Dilshan Madushanka to fill the void left by Carse. IPL 2026’s governing body also confirmed that the all-rounder’s absence is injury-related, and he will not take part in any further fixtures this season.
Madushanka arrives with a solid international track record. The left-arm pacer has featured in one Test, 28 One-Day Internationals, and 19 T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka, with 70 wickets across international cricket.
Financially, SRH have brought him into the squad for INR 75 lakh. The franchise also noted that Madushanka was previously part of the Mumbai Indians setup in the IPL.
His addition is expected to strengthen SRH’s bowling options immediately. The team already has young pace talent in Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, alongside senior quicks Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat, giving SRH a blend of pace and experience at the business end of games.
Captain Pat Cummins, who has been absent from the playing group, is expected to join the squad on April 17. In the meantime, Ishan Kishan has been leading the side.
Under Kishan’s captaincy, SRH have managed victories in two of their five matches so far. They currently sit fourth in the points table, with a net run rate of +0.576.
Madushanka’s IPL journey begins in 2026 after a long wait for a debut. He has not appeared in an IPL game up to this point, despite being acquired by Mumbai Indians for Rs 4.6 crore in 2024, when a hamstring injury kept him out.
The 25-year-old is particularly valued for his ability to move the ball early, especially during the powerplay overs—an attribute that can shape matches from the first spell. With Carse sidelined, SRH will look to those early breakthroughs to keep opposition totals in check.
How SRH are coming off the RR win
SRH’s latest momentum came on Monday against table-toppers Rajasthan Royals. The win was powered by debutants Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, who struck four wickets each as SRH’s bowlers dominated the chase.
Rajasthan were restricted to 159 runs in 19 overs while pursuing a target of 217, handing SRH a 57-run victory. With the tournament pressing forward, SRH now shift focus to their next challenge.
They will take on five-time champions Chennai Super Kings at their home venue, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, on Saturday. With Carse out and Madushanka set to join, the team’s bowling lineup could see a fresh look as SRH aim to keep their momentum going.
