SRH Rope in RS Ambrish to Replace Injured Shivam Mavi in IPL 2026

Sunrisers Hyderabad have moved to strengthen their pace options in IPL 2026 by signing India Under-19 allrounder RS Ambrish as cover for Shivam Mavi. Mavi has been ruled out of the season with a groin injury, and Ambrish comes in at his base price of INR 30 lakh.

How the replacement deal came together

  1. SRH had originally secured Shivam Mavi for INR 75 lakh at the auction, but the fast bowler did not feature in a match during the season.
  2. With Mavi sidelined due to a groin problem, SRH have now brought in RS Ambrish as his replacement.
  3. Ambrish’s deal is reported to be at his base price of INR 30 lakh.

Ambrish’s Under-19 World Cup impact

Ambrish was part of the India Under-19 team that lifted the 2026 Under-19 World Cup. He finished as India’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament, claiming 11 wickets.

In the final, Ambrish contributed three wickets, including the key breakthrough as India defended 412 against England.

Role, skills, and prior tours

Ambrish bats left-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace. Before the World Cup, he also took part in India Under-19 tours of England and Australia, along with the U-19 Asia Cup.

Injury pressure in SRH’s fast-bowling group

SRH have faced repeated setbacks in their pace department. Captain Pat Cummins missed the first four games of the season while working his way back to fitness. Earlier, fast-bowling allrounder Jack Edwards was ruled out before the campaign began due to a foot injury.

They were also hit early by concerns affecting their English pace pair, Brydon Carse and David Payne.

SRH’s current form and next fixture

Despite the injury troubles, SRH have been in strong rhythm, winning their last five matches in a row. They sit third in the points table and are one of three teams level on 12 points from nine games each.

SRH’s next assignment is a day match on Sunday, May 3, when they host Kolkata Knight Riders at home.
