Tempers boiled over during a Pakistan Super League game as Steve Smith became the centre of attention after his dismissal, with a viral clip capturing the Australian batter’s angry reaction inside the dressing room. The moment, filmed after a heated spell on the field, shows Smith snapping his bat into the equipment area in frustration following a send-off that clearly did not go down well.
The incident took place in the PSL 2026 Eliminator 1 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, where Smith’s time at the crease for Multan Sultans was brief and ultimately costly against Hyderabad Kingsmen. Facing Mohammad Ali, Smith tried to swing at a delivery of full length, but the shot went awry and was taken at square leg by Maaz Sadaqat.
There was added spice to the dismissal because Sadaqat had already let a chance slip earlier in the over. He dropped Smith just three balls before, but made amends quickly, taking the catch on the very next opportunity with a sharp, decisive effort. After completing the take, the youngster’s emotions spilled over as he celebrated aggressively—throwing the ball onto the ground in the heat of the moment.
That celebration, however, seemed to further rattle Smith. He walked off the field visibly frustrated, and later footage showed him venting his anger in the dressing room, slamming his bat with force. Even after settling in his seat, Smith appeared unsettled, underlining how strongly the dismissal had affected him.
On the scoreboard, the fallout was immediate. Smith made just 13 runs off 10 balls, providing an early jolt to Multan in a knockout contest where every phase matters.
While the game initially grabbed attention because of Smith’s reaction, Hyderabad Kingsmen quickly took control and turned the contest into a runaway chase. After Multan posted a target of 159, Hyderabad chased it down comfortably, securing an eight-wicket win in only 15.2 overs.
Maaz Sadaqat—who had been at the heart of the on-field drama—also delivered with the bat, finishing unbeaten on 64 off 33 balls. His innings set the tone for the chase and kept the pressure on Multan throughout. Usman Khan complemented him strongly as well, striking 64 off 35 deliveries in a confident, dominant pursuit.
Earlier in the match, Multan had managed 159/9, with Shan Masood leading the way. Masood struck an unbeaten 69 off 46 balls, anchoring the innings and giving his side a competitive total, though it ultimately proved insufficient once Hyderabad found momentum.
With this decisive victory, Hyderabad Kingsmen moved into Eliminator 2. There, they will play Islamabad United, with the winner set to face Peshawar Zalmi in the final on May 3.
For all the cricketing action on the field, it was Smith’s rare burst of emotion—and the dressing-room clip that quickly spread—that became the defining talking point, adding yet another dramatic chapter to an already intense PSL campaign.
