Sunrisers Hyderabad produced another explosive opening burst in IPL 2026, racing to 105 without loss in the first six overs against Punjab Kings at New Chandigarh. It was the league’s fifth time a team has reached the 100-mark or more in the powerplay, and the record highlights how often teams are now finding a way to turn the earliest overs into a statement.
125 for 0 — Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals, Delhi, 2024
It was the opening season of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma’s “Travishek” partnership style, and it showed immediately. After Delhi Capitals chose to field, Head and Abhishek set the tone by smashing 125 runs in the powerplay—marking the highest total ever recorded in the IPL during the first six overs. Every one of the initial six overs went for at least 19 runs, with Delhi using five different bowlers in an attempt to stem the flow.
In that stretch, Head and Abhishek combined for 13 fours and 11 sixes. Head finished the six-over phase unbeaten on 84 off just 26 deliveries, while Abhishek tore through at a strike rate of 400, punishing the bowlers for 40 runs off ten balls.
107 for 0 — Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Lucknow Super Giants, Hyderabad, 2024
Travishek struck again as Lucknow Super Giants set a target of 166. Sunrisers chased it down comfortably inside ten overs. Abhishek started the damage early in the second over, striking four consecutive legal deliveries for 4, 4, 4, 4 off Yash Thakur.
Head then raised the intensity further. Although there were two dot balls, the bowler K Gowtham still conceded 22 runs—three maximums and a boundary—to keep the scoring rate racing. The next three overs cost Lucknow 60 runs, with the standout moment coming in the fifth when Head struck Naveen-ul-Haq for 4, 4, 6, 4, 4.
By the end of the powerplay, Sunrisers Hyderabad were 107 without loss.
105 for 0 — Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Bengaluru, 2017
Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn lit up the chase of 159 for Kolkata Knight Riders. Lynn began with authority, hitting Aniket Choudhary for two fours and a six in the very first over. Samuel Badree then limited the damage in the second, conceding just six runs.
However, momentum swung sharply after that. From 20 without loss in the second over, KKR surged to 105 without losing a wicket by the conclusion of the six-over powerplay. Lynn attacked Yuzvendra Chahal for 14 runs, while Narine delivered a brutal burst—6, 6, 6, 4 off Badree—to rack up 25 runs in the process.
Narine then continued the assault, smashing Sreenath Aravind for four boundaries and a six. Along the way, he reached a fifty off 15 balls, which at the time was tied for the joint-fastest in IPL history. Lynn finished the powerplay with a 20-run over that included two sixes and a four against Chahal.
105 for 0 — Punjab Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, New Chandigarh, 2026
Take three from Head and Abhishek—Sunrisers’ powerplay damage arrived in a clear pattern. Only 20 runs came in the first two overs, but the tempo accelerated sharply thereafter as 105 without loss was reached by the end of the six-over phase.
Up to that point, all boundaries came from Abhishek. He then struck Arshdeep Singh for two fours and two sixes in a 24-run over. Head joined in during the fourth over, punishing Marco Jansen for two fours and a six.
Abhishek then unleashed another big sequence, launching Vijaykumar Vyshak for 6, 0, 6, 6, 0, 6. In the final powerplay over, Head started with 4, 4, 4 against Xavier Bartlett, and Abhishek also struck Bartlett for a six as the pair ensured Sunrisers finished strongly at 105 without loss.
100 for 2 — Chennai Super Kings vs Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai, 2014
Chennai Super Kings were chasing 227 for a win in Qualifier 2 against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). They began in a tense fashion, slipping to 9 for 1 after one over. Still, Suresh Raina swung the game around in quick bursts.
Raina struck Sandeep Sharma for 4, 4, 0, 6, 4, 0 in the second over, collecting 18 runs. He then took two boundaries off Parwinder Awana in the third over. The assault intensified in the fourth, when Raina punished Mitchell Johnson for a four and two sixes, with the over going for 20 runs.
After that, Sandeep conceded only 11 in the next over. But Raina then tore into Awana again, hitting 6, 6, 4, 4, 4 (no ball), 4, 4—an explosive run that delivered 33 runs and took CSK to 100 for 2 in six overs. Even so, Chennai ultimately lost the match.
