Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has been hit with a fine equal to 50% of his match fee and has also received two demerit points for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Indian Premier League 2026 final against Gujarat Titans on Sunday. The incident occurred in the 10th over of the first innings when David threw an ice bag aggressively in the direction of umpire Nitin Menon.
The RCB player was sanctioned after being found in violation of Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The clause covers situations involving “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match.”
With five demerit points already accumulated across the recently completed IPL campaign, David will now face a suspension for RCB’s opening match of the next IPL season. Should he move franchises for IPL 2027, the ban will apply to that team’s first match as well. This latest sanction marks David’s third Level 1 offence of the season: his first came in Match 20, resulting in one demerit point, and the second arrived in Match 54, which brought two additional demerit points.
