Urvil Patel Smashes 65 as CSK Stretch Win Streak With Chase vs LSG

Chennai Super Kings extended their winning streak to three matches in IPL 2026 as they beat Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday. The chase was spearheaded by Urvil Patel, whose explosive 65 came off just 23 deliveries, helping CSK stay in the playoff mix while pushing LSG closer to the edge of elimination.

Urvil’s knock featured a landmark that will be talked about for a long time: he produced one of the joint-fastest fifties in IPL history, reaching 50 in only 13 balls. It was also the quickest half-century by a CSK batter and his maiden IPL fifty, setting the tone early and building pressure at every stage of the chase.

What happened at Chepauk

  1. Lucknow Super Giants were put in to bat first, and Josh Inglis made an immediate impact by hammering 85 off 33 balls as the visitors raced to 91 during the powerplay.
  2. After the field restrictions were lifted, CSK tightened the screws. Jamie Overton returned figures of 3/36, helping limit LSG to 203/8.
  3. CSK made a quick start in their chase through Sanju Samson and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, but Samson’s pull attempt ended when he was dismissed by Digvesh Rathi.
  4. From that point, Urvil took charge, launching Avesh Khan for three sixes in a single over before punishing Rathi with three more maximums and a boundary to keep the momentum firmly in CSK’s hands.
  5. A major turning point arrived when Urvil cleared long-on against Mohammed Shami for his seventh six, moving from 41 to 48 off just 11 balls.
  6. Urvil then completed his fifty in 13 deliveries, equalling the IPL mark set by Yashasvi Jaiswal in 2023.
  7. After reaching the milestone, he pulled out a note from his pocket that read, “This is for you, Dad,” along with lines written in Gujarati. The Chepauk crowd responded loudly with chants of “Urvil! Urvil!” as the CSK dugout celebrated.
  8. Urvil eventually finished on 65 off 23 balls, striking at 282.61 with eight sixes and two fours. His innings also powered CSK to 97/1 in the powerplay—the highest powerplay total at Chepauk, surpassing the 91 LSG had posted earlier.
  9. Even after Urvil’s dismissal, the chase stayed alive as Shahbaz Ahmed and Rathi removed Gaikwad and Dewald Brevis, while Kartik Sharma contributed 20 before falling to Avesh Khan. CSK were 169/5 in the 17th over.
  10. Prashant Veer and Shivam Dube then managed the pressure effectively, finishing the chase with four balls to spare. Veer remained unbeaten on 18 and was dropped twice during his stay—once by Rathi and again by Nicholas Pooran.
  11. With 10 runs required in the final over, Aiden Markram was brought into the attack. After two wides, Dube struck back with consecutive sixes to close out the win and keep CSK’s playoff hopes alive.

The result marked a special milestone for CSK as well: it was the first time since 2019 that they successfully chased a target above 180. With the victory, CSK rose to fifth place in the points table, while LSG’s position became increasingly precarious as they moved nearer to elimination.
