Urvil Patel’s 13-Ball Fifty Sparks Viral CSK Celebration vs LSG

Chennai Super Kings batter Urvil Patel delivered a stunning show in IPL 2026 on Sunday, racing to a half-century off just 13 balls against Lucknow Super Giants. His 13-ball fifty is the joint-fastest in the league’s tournament history, and he backed it with an innings packed with boundaries. Patel finished on 65 off 23 deliveries, striking eight sixes in the process.

What made the knock even more memorable was the way he chose to celebrate. After reaching the milestone, the 27-year-old paid tribute to his father for Mother’s Day with a note that carried the message: “This is for you Papa”. First, he offered a folded-hands gesture towards the dressing room, then revealed the paper with the heartfelt line written on it.

Quick facts

At a glance

  • Player: Urvil Patel (Chennai Super Kings)
  • Opponent: Lucknow Super Giants
  • Fastest fifty: 13 balls (joint-fastest in IPL history)
  • Final score: 65 off 23 deliveries

  • Milestone timing: Completed fifty in the seventh over (off 13 balls)

Urvil entered his rhythm early and looked like one of the most destructive hitters in the competition. He struck seven sixes off his opening 11 balls, turning the chase into a demolition job. For a stretch, it appeared he might break Yuvraj Singh’s record of a 12-ball fifty, but that particular landmark remained out of reach.

Even without going past that mark, he matched another significant benchmark. Patel equalled Yashasvi Jaiswal for the fastest fifty in IPL history, confirming that his acceleration was not a one-off burst. With his onslaught, CSK surged to more than half of their chase of 204 within the opening eight overs.

How the innings unfolded

Chennai’s momentum shifted when opener Sanju Samson was dismissed in the fourth over, bringing Patel to the crease. He began with a single off his first ball, before immediately taking control—hitting three consecutive sixes off Avesh Khan. The sequence underlined the threat he posed every time the ball landed in his hitting zone.

In the final over of the Powerplay, Patel kept the pressure on by smashing three more sixes along with a boundary, again forcing the field to spread. Then, in the seventh over delivered by LSG’s Mohammed Shami, he struck a six and completed his half-century off 13 balls by taking a single.

Patel’s stay ended in the 10th over when Shahbaz Ahmed dismissed him, after he had already produced a blistering 65 off just 18 deliveries at the time of dismissal. Still, the damage was done—CSK were well positioned at 131/2 after 10 overs. He also built an 81-run stand for the second wicket with Ruturaj Gaikwad, with that partnership coming off only 34 balls.
