Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Sets IPL 2026 Alight, Leads Orange Cap Race

Rajasthan Royals teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is living the kind of season that turns headlines into reality checks. His performances in the IPL 2026 have sparked fresh talk of an early call-up to India, with his name increasingly linked to the next wave of batters who can handle elite bowling pressure. Sooryavanshi currently holds the Orange Cap as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, having amassed more than 600 runs so far. At just 15, he has already shown he can thrive against some of the sport’s toughest operators, including Pat Cummins, Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood—yet the most striking part is that he still keeps his childhood comfort close. Even after proving himself on the biggest stages, he admits he remains, at heart, a kid who still enjoys cartoons when the world gets too loud.

Dubbed a “fearless prodigy” for the way he approaches batting, Sooryavanshi explained that his off-field routine is what helps him switch off. Winning against top-class pacers may bring him satisfaction on the scoreboard, but it doesn’t automatically give him the calm he wants. Instead, he looks for that familiar sense of relaxation at home, describing cartoons as his go-to escape. “When I used to stay at home two or three years ago and played matches or practised there, whenever I had free time at home, I used to watch cartoons, and I really enjoyed it. Even now, whenever I feel like I need some relaxation or peace, I watch cartoons. I sit comfortably in my room and watch whichever cartoons I like. It feels really nice and reminds me a lot of home,” he said during a conversation with JioStar.

Sooryavanshi’s rise has been rapid, and it began with a major leap of faith from the franchise system. The Rajasthan Royals bought him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, and during the same discussion he talked through the moment the bid became real—how he went from a prospect to a player earning an Rs 1.10 crore valuation. He recalled that the first call came from Romi Bhinder, the team manager, while he was in Dubai as the auction was underway. After trials and earlier conversations, Bhinder had indicated the Royals were considering him, and the call itself was short but memorable. “I got the first call from Romi Bhinder sir, who is the team manager. I was in Dubai, and the auction was also taking place there. After the trials, I had spoken to him and he had told me that they would go for me, and then we spoke for two to three minutes on the call while he congratulated me. In my debut match, I hit a six off the first ball, so it was a very special moment and a great memory. Then, I scored a hundred in the same season, which was a very proud moment for both my family and me. It was only my third match, so it felt great to have such a good start to my IPL career, and I am just carrying that momentum forward now,” Sooryavanshi said.

Now, with his momentum flowing and his form impossible to ignore, the next challenge comes immediately. Following a match-winning knock of 29 balls for 97 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, Sooryavanshi is expected to be central again as Rajasthan prepare for Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2. If his recent streak continues, the youngster who still watches cartoons in his room could be on the verge of writing another chapter—this time with even bigger stakes than ever before.
