Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines in IPL 2026 Buzz, Scores Viral Bihar PR

The buzz around 15-year-old cricket prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is building far beyond traditional fan circles. Even without having played a single match for India at senior level, the left-field sensation has turned IPL 2026 into his personal stage, transforming his name into something fans of all ages can say with ease. His breakout has also shifted attention back to his roots in Bihar, a state that has produced only a limited number of international cricketers in recent years—something presenter Ridhima Pathak believes is long overdue to be celebrated.

Speaking in an Instagram video, Pathak argued that Sooryavanshi has become exactly the kind of public image Bihar needed. She pointed out that, when she was younger, people in school and college hesitated to identify themselves as being from Bihar, largely because of the reputation that had followed former politician Lalu Prasad Yadav. In her words, the state’s identity carried a shadow for a long time, and it wasn’t easy to speak about Bihar with confidence. Pathak then recalled how perceptions began to shift when two very different influences arrived—Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the film Gangs of Wasseypur—both of which, she said, helped add a certain swagger and pride among Biharis.

However, Pathak added that the “good publicity” that came with those references did not remain where it was most needed. She referenced the political separation of Jharkhand from Bihar, describing how much of that positive spotlight seemed to travel to the new state. Now, though, she believes the tide has turned again. “But now, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has emerged,” she said. “He is an out-and-out Bihari. Now, no Bihari will shy away from saying they are Bihari. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is just the right PR that Bihar needed.”

Sooryavanshi’s on-field numbers have made it hard to ignore the hype. At just 15 years old, he became the youngest player in IPL history to claim both the Orange Cap—recognised for the most runs in the tournament—and the “Most Valuable Player” award. Across 16 matches, he hammered 776 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 237.30, a run of form that forced even established world-class fast bowlers to rethink their plans. Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc were among those who found themselves on the receiving end as Sooryavanshi dominated the tempo of matches with relentless boundary-hitting.

With his career gathering momentum at such an early age, attention has naturally started drifting toward what comes next. Sooryavanshi is from Samastipur in Bihar, and a growing number of cricket voices now suggest he could be in contention for a senior debut for India. For a youngster who has already rewritten IPL records, the next chapter could be the most significant one yet.
