Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has quickly emerged as one of the most captivating characters in IPL 2026. The 15-year-old, known for watching cartoons before matches, has now turned that routine into record-breaking performances on the biggest stage.
A restrained batting display did little to derail the teenage sensation’s momentum, as Rajasthan Royals beat Lucknow Super Giants by 40 runs in Lucknow on Wednesday. Sooryavanshi contributed 8 runs from 11 balls, but even that short spell was enough to place him firmly in IPL history.
At 15 years and 26 days, he became the youngest batter to reach 500 IPL runs, eclipsing Prithvi Shaw. He also reached the landmark at the quickest pace in terms of balls faced, needing just 227 deliveries—cutting down the previous benchmark set by Glenn Maxwell.
Even with a modest knock in this match, Sooryavanshi remains Rajasthan’s leading run-getter for the ongoing season, having amassed 254 runs. Impressively, he has already struck two half-centuries this season, and both came from only 15 balls—figures that place them jointly among the third-fastest fifties in IPL history.
Cartoon talks, cricket dominance
While the numbers drew attention, it was Sooryavanshi’s relaxed post-match remarks that truly captured the public imagination. When asked about his mindset at an age when many children are glued to cartoons, he answered with surprising clarity.
“Dimaag me kuch nahi chalta hai. Aaj bhi har din match se pahle hum bhi cartoon dekhte hain, aadat hai dekhne ka (smile). Abhi bhi hum cartoon dekh rahe hain, par focus game par bhi hai (Even today I watch cartoons before every match, but focus is on game too),” he said, smiling as he spoke.
The candid reply spread quickly, resonating with fans who saw the balance of childhood habits and top-level pressure in real time.
And despite the quieter innings in Lucknow, the youngster looked ahead with confidence. “Accha karenge agla match me. Jeet ke 2 points liye, aage badi playoffs ki taraf,” he added—signalling that the next step is already on his mind.
Jadeja’s impact guides RR
Rajasthan Royals’ victory was anchored by Ravindra Jadeja, whose all-round contribution set the tone. Jadeja stayed unbeaten on 43 and also made a decisive breakthrough with the ball, earning him the Player of the Match award.
RR skipper Riyan Parag acknowledged that his team may have pushed nearer to the 180-run mark, but he felt the bowling unit—led by Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger—did the job by defending the total comfortably.
The result moved Rajasthan Royals up to second place in the standings. Yet again, the spotlight wasn’t only on match-winning performances; it was also on the club’s cartoon-loving teenage prodigy, who continues to steal attention wherever he plays.
