NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to bowl first against Mumbai Indians in a high-stakes IPL 2026 encounter at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday. KKR kept their lineup the same as in the prior match, while Mumbai welcomed a significant boost as skipper Hardik Pandya returned to the playing XI after being sidelined with an injury. Speaking about KKR\u2019s fluctuating tournament so far, Rahane added: \u201cYeah, it\u2019s been a see-saw season. In the first half, there were phases where we could have capitalised and the outcome could have been different, but there are no complaints and no regrets. The way we bounced back, the way we managed to get things done, and the confidence within the group has been fantastic. The mood in the dressing room has been excellent. It\u2019s always about making that comeback\u2014about being present in each phase and doing the job for the team. Everyone has been fantastic. As for the pitch, it\u2019s honestly difficult to read, but as I said, we need to play good cricket through the full 40 overs, and then see where it takes us. We\u2019re sticking with the same team.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the toss proceedings, former India head coach Ravi Shastri asked Pandya whether Mumbai were effectively playing \u201cfor pride\u201d now that their campaign had ended in terms of reaching the knockout stage. Pandya replied: \u201cWe would have bowled first as well. It looks like a wicket that\u2019s been under covers. We just wanted to see how it actually plays out.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Mumbai\u2019s mindset for the remaining matches, Pandya said: \u201cPlaying for pride, absolutely. Every match you play, you want to win. At the same time, Mumbai Indians have a long tradition of winning titles, so we want to keep our heads high and represent the franchise in the right way.
