Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant found himself at the centre of a fresh debate after a post-match television interview in which he used a profanity while reacting to the team\u2019s performance. The comment quickly drew criticism, but former India captain Sunil Gavaskar defended the wicketkeeper-batter and argued that broadcasters should allow captains a moment to settle after a defeat.<\/p>\n

What Pant said after the Rajasthan Royals loss<\/h2>\n

  1. After LSG\u2019s defeat to Rajasthan Royals on May 19 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Pant was called in for a post-match interview.<\/li>\n
  2. During the live interaction, Pant remarked, \u201cWe\u2019re a f***** good team,\u201d using the \u2018F\u2019 word in his response.<\/li>\n
  3. The line was broadcast immediately, and it triggered backlash from multiple quarters.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Gavaskar\u2019s defence and the argument about interview timing<\/h2>\n

    Even as the comment was criticised widely, Gavaskar backed Pant. He suggested that the media should not rush captains into interviews immediately after a loss\u2014particularly when frustration is still raw.<\/p>\n

    Gavaskar questioned the need to interview a skipper moments after defeat, especially when a match has ended in a tight finish. He added that if the captain is also keeping wickets\u2014having to move and work hard between deliveries\u2014then the immediate post-game moment can heighten emotions and make outbursts more likely.<\/p>\n

    He also proposed a practical alternative: speak first to the player of the match from the winning side, then give the losing captain a short window to compose himself before coming on air. Gavaskar pointed out that the presentation schedule typically leaves some time for formalities, so extending the interview gap for the captain would help prevent such incidents.<\/p>\n

    In his view, Pant is known for his cheerful personality and his ability to express himself in his own manner. Gavaskar argued that even if Pant\u2019s team lost, that should not automatically mean the microphone is pushed toward the skipper before he has had time to recover his thoughts.<\/p>\n

    LSG and Pant\u2019s IPL 2026 campaign under pressure<\/h2>\n

    The controversy sits within a difficult IPL 2026 stretch for both Lucknow Super Giants and Pant. LSG finished at the bottom of the points table, managing only four wins from 14 matches while losing 10 times.<\/p>\n

    Pant\u2019s batting also struggled during the season, as he scored 312 runs in those 14 games.<\/p>\n
