Phil Salt, the explosive opening batter for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, will be a key talking point ahead of the IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday. Salt missed the majority of RCB\u2019s league-stage campaign because of an injury, and while Jacob Bethell was drafted in during his absence, the replacement couldn\u2019t make the same kind of impact. Venkatesh Iyer, meanwhile, was promoted to open against Sunrisers Hyderabad and delivered a brisk, high-tempo innings in RCB\u2019s final league match. With the qualifier now around the corner, the biggest question remains whether Salt has recovered in time to feature.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Monday during the pre-match media interaction, RCB captain Rajat Patidar addressed Salt\u2019s availability. Salt has recently returned from England after receiving treatment for an injured finger, and when Patidar was asked directly whether the opener would be fit, he stopped short of offering a definitive answer.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is fit and doing drills, but we have not decided the playing XI yet,\u201d Patidar said.<\/p>\n
Patidar also acknowledged the widening gap between bat and ball in modern IPL cricket, where scores in excess of 220 to 250 are becoming the norm rather than the exception. He suggested that even with effort and adaptability, bowlers\u2014particularly fast bowlers\u2014are facing tougher conditions as the tournament trends heavily towards high totals.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel it is more challenging for the bowlers. The wickets are batting-friendly, the boundaries are smaller, and there is dew as well. Especially for fast bowlers, even a small mistake goes for six,\u201d Patidar said.<\/p>\n
Despite those concerns, the RCB skipper stressed that his team will focus on execution regardless of the surface or conditions. \u201cBut whatever wicket or conditions we get, we just try to do our best on that. It is not in my hands to decide how the wickets should be,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Patidar was equally careful when questioned about the IPL final being shifted from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad. He said the venue change was not something under his control, while also noting the significance of the original hosting ground and the team\u2019s priority of reaching the final.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not in my control. This is a historic site, so wherever the final is going to be, that\u2019s where it is going to be. We are focused on reaching the final,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The governing body moved the title match to Ahmedabad, citing operational constraints and local political complications. The decision referenced issues such as excessive requests for tickets and concerns around crowd management.<\/p>\n
RCB and Gujarat Titans enter Qualifier 1 after finishing the league stage with identical points. Patidar framed the upcoming contest as a matchup between teams that are closely matched in quality, and suggested that the side that executes its plans more calmly will have the edge on the day.<\/p>\n
