Gill was equally emphatic about Sudharsan\u2019s strengths, describing the left-hander\u2019s ability to maintain the same intensity across different phases of the season. \u201cWhen I first started playing the IPL, one challenge I faced was keeping the matches at the same intensity. I think that is one of Sai\u2019s biggest strengths,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
He further explained why that consistency matters in a tournament as demanding as the IPL. \u201cYou play so many matches, and there can be days where mentally you don\u2019t feel up to the mark or physically you don\u2019t feel up to the mark, but to maintain the same intensity in every game and stay consistent with preparation, routines and day-to-day habits isn\u2019t easy. He\u2019s someone who is very consistent with his routines, even away from cricket. That\u2019s also what makes him consistent on the field,\u201d Gill added.<\/p>\n
Gujarat Titans\u2019 director of cricket Vikram Solanki also pointed to the work ethic behind their run-scoring surge. \u201cIt is on the back of a lot of hard work. I can only imagine all the work Shubman has put in throughout his career to reach where he is with the bat. He\u2019s an exceptional young man, and you also have to realise he\u2019s still young,\u201d Solanki said. \u201cFor him to play the cricket he plays and bat the way he bats is just phenomenal.\u201d<\/p>\n
Solanki then spoke about Sudharsan\u2019s approach as well, highlighting how the left-hander\u2019s development has been shaped by learning from Gill while still keeping his own batting identity. \u201cAnd Sai is no less so. He might be a little younger in his journey, but you can see he takes a fine example from Shubman and understands that what you and I might call batsmanship\u2014traditional batting\u2014has to be part of his skill set,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also stressed that the duo can shift gears when the situation demands it. \u201cThere is no doubt in my mind that if a scenario requires them to quicken the run rate, and the wicket supports that kind of play, then they can adapt. I think that\u2019s their best quality\u2014the ability to adjust given any situation, any wicket, any opposition,\u201d Solanki added. \u201cAlong with the fact that they have an immense appetite for run-scoring.
