Nepal opener Kushal Bhurtel has carried his sensational run of form into the men\u2019s cricket qualifiers for the Asian Games, turning a brief burst of brilliance into a record-tinged statement. In the space of days, he has delivered back-to-back T20I centuries\u2014matching a rare world record feat\u2014soon after sending six balls for six in a single over. On Thursday, that momentum translated into another emphatic display as Nepal routed Malaysia by 167 runs, putting their spot in the final firmly in focus.<\/p>\n

Nepal vs Malaysia: how the match unfolded<\/h2>\n

  1. Malaysia chose to field first, setting up an early chase for Bhurtel and wicketkeeper-batter Aasif Sheikh.<\/li>\n
  2. Bhurtel and Aasif hammered the opening stand for 134 runs, reaching three figures by the end of the seventh over.<\/li>\n
  3. Even as the innings progressed, Nepal\u2019s momentum stayed intact; they climbed to 230 for 2 by the close of the 16th over.<\/li>\n
  4. Aasif set the tone with 68 off 24 deliveries, but Virandeep Singh eventually dismissed him.<\/li>\n
  5. From that point, the attention narrowed almost completely on Bhurtel, who reached his fifty in 25 balls.<\/li>\n
  6. Bhurtel then converted his start into a hundred in just 19 more deliveries, before finishing with 126 off 54 balls.<\/li>\n
  7. His innings featured 14 boundaries and eight sixes, helping Nepal pile up 275 runs in total.<\/li>\n
  8. Malaysia never got close to the target, and were dismissed for 108, handing Nepal a comprehensive win.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The century had extra weight for Bhurtel beyond the size of the victory. After striking a hundred against China in Nepal\u2019s first group match, he became only the 10th male batter in T20I history to score centuries in consecutive innings. That places him in the company of an exclusive list that includes Rilee Rossouw, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma and Phil Salt.<\/p>\n

    From China to Malaysia: Bhurtel\u2019s record spree<\/h3>\n

    Bhurtel\u2019s run began in the tournament opener against China, where he produced one of the most destructive overs seen in international cricket. After reaching his half-century within eight overs, he went after left-arm spinner Chen Zhou Yue in the very next over, hitting all six deliveries for six with shots sailing over the bowler\u2019s head.<\/p>\n

    Even though Malaysia suffered a heavy loss, they had already secured their qualification for the 2026 Asian Games by beating China earlier in the competition. Their next assignment will be against Hong Kong, who topped Group B, in the semi-finals. Nepal, meanwhile, will continue their title pursuit by taking on Oman.<\/p>\n

    For now, though, the tournament narrative revolves around Bhurtel.
