A tense spell of emotions rocked the Delhi Capitals camp on Saturday evening during the closing stages of their chase against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, with a confrontation involving Nitish Rana quickly spilling over into another heated moment behind the scenes.<\/p>\n
The flashpoint arrived in the 19th over of Delhi\u2019s run chase. Batter Tristan Stubbs asked for a change of gloves, explaining that he felt uncomfortable with the pair he was using. With the visitors still retaining a slender opportunity\u2014needing 32 runs from the next 12 balls\u2014Stubbs sought permission to use a replacement.<\/p>\n
Nitish Rana was prepared to take the field with spare gloves, but the fourth umpire stopped him. Under IPL playing conditions, a batter is only permitted to swap equipment at the start or end of an over, which meant Stubbs\u2019 request mid-over could not be approved. The denial left Rana visibly angry, and the argument drew the attention of Karun Nair and Delhi head coach Hemang Badani, who were present during the exchange.<\/p>\n

Clearly frustrated, Stubbs reacted with visible anger as he threw his helmet on his way back to the dressing room. The dismissal all but ended Delhi\u2019s comeback attempt, especially as Chennai had already been impacted by a slow over-rate earlier in the innings\u2014meaning they had to maintain an extra fielder inside the circle.<\/p>\n
With the chase effectively in the balance, Delhi still required 28 runs off the last over. However, that ask proved beyond them as Anshul Kamboj struck twice in the final over, restricting Delhi to 189.<\/p>\n
After the incident, Rana faced disciplinary action for his conduct. He was found guilty of breaching Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which covers the \u201cuse of an audible obscenity during a match.\u201d<\/p>\n
