Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has received a punishment from the IPL\u2019s disciplinary process after being slow to return the ball to the umpires during their Sunday encounter with Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. David was fined 25% of his match fee for breaching the league\u2019s Code of Conduct, with the offence linked to failing to follow umpiring instructions during the contest.<\/p>\n

What Tim David was charged with<\/h2>\n

The IPL statement confirmed that David violated Article 2.4 of the Code of Conduct, which covers \u201cdisobeying an umpire\u2019s instruction during a match.\u201d He was also handed one demerit point after breaching Level 1 of the Code for Players and Team Officials during Match No. 20 versus Mumbai Indians.<\/p>\n

  1. The first incident came in the 18th over of RCB\u2019s innings (17.2). After the on-field officials changed the ball, David wanted to inspect it but did not hand it over despite being asked repeatedly to do so.<\/li>\n
  2. The second breach occurred in the 20th over (19.2). David again failed to return the ball to the umpires, resulting in a repeated non-compliance with officials\u2019 directives.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    As footage from the stoppages spread widely online, supporters called for David to face tougher consequences, arguing that a batter cannot delay the process of returning the ball in the manner described. David, however, admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee.<\/p>\n

    Hardik Pandya also penalised for slow over-rate<\/h2>\n

    Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was fined separately for a slow over-rate. Since it was his team\u2019s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the Code of Conduct, the penalty was set at INR 12 lakh.<\/p>\n

    RCB vs MI: how the match unfolded<\/h2>\n

    On Sunday, RCB secured a win over Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in a high-scoring IPL 2026 fixture at the Wankhede Stadium. The result was shaped by a powerful RCB batting display and timely breakthroughs by the bowlers at key moments.<\/p>\n

    1. RCB batted first and posted 240\/4 in their 20 overs, building their total through explosive contributions from Phil Salt (78 off 36 balls), Virat Kohli (50 off 38 balls), and captain Rajat Patidar (53 off 20 balls).<\/li>\n
    2. Tim David then added a late burst of 34 not out off 16 deliveries to help RCB reach a daunting total.<\/li>\n
    3. Chasing 241, Mumbai Indians fell short, finishing on 222\/5 in their allotted overs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
