The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a two-year ban to Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani after he withdrew from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) once an Indian Premier League (IPL) deal came through. The decision follows a similar line to the participation and contract rules enforced by the BCCI, with the PCB citing a breach of the existing agreement that was in place.<\/p>\n

What led to the PCB ban<\/h2>\n

  1. Muzarabani removed himself from the ongoing PSL after being offered an IPL contract by the Kolkata Knight Riders.<\/li>\n
  2. The PCB acted after a disciplinary review on Tuesday, declaring him \u201cineligible to participate in the next two editions of the PSL, effective immediately.\u201d<\/li>\n
  3. The board said the ban was imposed because the bowler did not honour his PSL contract, with the sanction intended to protect the league\u2019s professional standards.<\/li>\n
  4. The PCB also underlined that the length of the punishment reflects the seriousness of the violation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The PCB stated that franchise-based competitions depend on transparency and consistency from players. It added that taking on a conflicting engagement while a binding commitment already exists is not in line with the expectations of the sport, and that ignoring such conduct can weaken trust in how professional deals are handled\u2014affecting the confidence of franchises, regulators, and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n

    For the second consecutive season, the PSL and IPL have been held at the same time window, and Muzarabani has become the latest example of a player who initially committed to the PSL before backing out after securing an IPL opportunity. He is the second such case to be punished in this way.<\/p>\n

    Last year, Corbin Bosch\u2014signed by Peshawar Zalmi as part of the Diamond Pick\u2014also withdrew after being brought in by Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement. Bosch was then handed a one-year ban from the PSL.<\/p>\n

    Muzarabani, meanwhile, had previously tasted PSL success, winning the title with Multan Sultans. He went unsold at the inaugural league auction in February, but Islamabad United later picked him up after releasing West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph.<\/p>\n

    After signing with Islamabad United, Muzarabani informed the franchise of his plan to step away from the PSL 2026 season. The reason given was that he had secured a contract with Kolkata Knight Riders last month. The move also meant he was drafted in as a replacement for Bangladesh left-arm quick Mustafizur Rahman, who had been released by the franchise last December following directions from the BCCI.<\/p>\n

    On the IPL front, Muzarabani made his debut earlier this season in KKR\u2019s opening match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede.
