Ajinkya Rahane, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain, was fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 meeting against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday. The IPL disciplinary action was announced on Wednesday, with Rahane penalised under the league\u2019s Code of Conduct for the team\u2019s first over-rate breach of the season under Article 2.22.<\/p>\n

Rahane\u2019s fine and the match outcome<\/h2>\n
    \n
  1. Rahane was sanctioned Rs 12 lakh for failing to maintain the required over-rate during KKR\u2019s IPL 2026 fixture versus CSK.<\/li>\n
  2. The fine came as KKR\u2019s first offence of the campaign under Article 2.22, which covers minimum over-rate violations.<\/li>\n
  3. CSK beat KKR by 32 runs to secure their second straight victory, with Noor Ahmad producing bowling figures of 3\/21.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Batting first, Chennai reached 192\/5 after being invited to take the crease. Sanju Samson top-scored with 48, while Dewald Brevis contributed 41 as CSK built a competitive total.<\/p>\n

    In reply, KKR were held back during the chase and finished on 160\/7. Noor, operating with left-arm wrist spin, played a key role in restricting the visitors and helped ensure that KKR did not register a win in their fifth match of the season.<\/p>\n

    Points table and season context<\/h2>\n

    Kolkata remain at the bottom of the points table with one point, a tally they earned from a washed-out game. Chennai, who began the season with three losses, have now collected back-to-back wins and moved up to eighth place.<\/p>\n

    CSK are still awaiting the return of MS Dhoni, who is currently recovering from a calf injury and has not played yet this season.<\/p>\n

    How the chase unfolded<\/h2>\n

    1. KKR lost early wickets in their run chase, including Finn Allen (1) and Sunil Narine (24).<\/li>\n
    2. Rahane was dismissed for 28, and Cameron Green fell for a golden duck on consecutive deliveries.<\/li>\n
    3. Rinku Singh prevented a hat-trick by staying at the crease.<\/li>\n
    4. Rovman Powell (31 not out) and Ramandeep Singh (35) attempted to rebuild the innings, but the required run rate remained too demanding.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Speaking after the match, Rahane said the team needed to maintain confidence and remain positive. He also reflected on CSK\u2019s bowling impact, noting that CSK posted strong scores in the power play and that KKR\u2019s ability to narrow the gap after reaching 190 was an encouraging effort from their bowlers.<\/p>\n

      Rahane added that while hitting spinners in the middle stage was slightly difficult, the wicket offered something for batters at the right moments.
